UK CAA PPL in Spain
I have a UK CAA PPL issued before JAA. I want to know the best way to be allowed to rent a plane solo from a Spanish Flying Club. CAA want Ģ176 for what seems to be the addition of 3 words:"Joint Aviation Authorities" on the front of my licence and I'm stiil not sure if that would do the trick. A man from DGAC at Sabadell gave me a European Union (not JAA/EASA) doc. which says any person holding a PPL isued by a member state shall be permitted to fly a/c registerd in another member state. So I should be able to do nothing , it seems, and still fly, although he admitted a lot of clubs don't know this EU rule. Would it be necessary/better/ cheaper to get some Document of Recognition from Spanish DGAC? Advice welcome...

More than "not knowing" it could be a matter of "not willing to". Or in other words, if they have a school, they "wonīt know" and will probably ask you to get whatever weird course to convert, validate or anything.
Then again, there are many clubs out there that are not that "ignorant".
As always, if you know (as that inspector already told you), donīt ask. That seems to be the best way to get a positive answer.
Go flying! Cheers
