Coulthard has driven the current best car for his whole career yet has only won a handful of Grand Prix and never won a championship. Yet Mika has won two and the oft criticised Damon Hill won one while driving identical cars. There's always some excuse for him. The only reason he won today is because others screwed up in qualification and in the race.
Don't get me wrong I like the guy but he's a perpetual also ran. He will never win a champonship.
But genuine congratulations on his victory. He's as lucky as poor old Johnny Herbert is unlucky.

It's about time Mclaren filled that "second" seat with a competitive driver, as a Ferrari fan I have no wish in seeing Mclaren do well but it is damn irritating seeing somebody waste such a fortunate drive. Let's hope that the rumours of Jacques Villeneuve partnering Mika next year are true. Damon never won a world championship driving identical cars as David, in fact he lossed one so badly (1995) that Coulthard technically could have passed him on points at the closing stages of the season.

Put em all in identical cars and Schumacher would win hands down.

JIGSAW

If you saw that overtake (Coulthard passing Barrichello) then you would surely accept that it was a brilliant move.
As far as others screwing up in qualifying, well that's all part of the competition. Did you not think it was a refreshing change to have a Jordan in pole position? I thought (and was proved right) that it would be a brilliant race

Personally I don't like Schumacher because he has such an air of arrogance that is amplified when he gets in a F1 car. He is by far the best driver, but he is also a dirty cheat. Remember when he shunted Damon Hill twice (1995 and again in 1996)? Fortunately it didn't scupper Hill's chances in 96, and he finished the race to win the title.

I laughed my ar*e off when 'Schuey' lost so many places at the start. Good on Mika for holding his position and forcing him onto the grass.

Hi all

never thought that an F1 moment would get much responce. I agree with a lot of you out there.
1. Coulthard dosent have what it takes to win the championship, YET!!
2. Shumacher is without doubt the best driver in F1 today, but I'll never support him more over my fellow countryman, Coulthard. Maybe I'm a nationalist but I never believe in backing against your country!
3. It was a great race having an "unusal" start ie not Mclaren Ferarri Mclaren Ferarri on the first two rows of the grid.

All hats of to Jenson Button as well, I was really pleased when I thought that he was going to come in third ( 3RD!!!) in his first British GP, but alas that damned strategy co@ked it all up again!

Keep watching all and Coulthard WILL win the championship one day!! Atleast in my world he will!!!!

My tuppence worth:

1. David Coulthard is the most underrated driver in F1. IMHO he is only bettered by Hakkinnen and that Schumaker, and seperated from Hakkinnen by a fag paper.

2. Hakkinnen is the David Beckham of Motorsport - he's quite happy out front but as soon as he's 3rd or 4th he stops driving and sulks.

3. Schumaker is a truly brilliant driver, but he comes across very badly. He attempts to mimick Eddie Irvine in the way he talks to the press (maybe rubbed off on him from last year) but he doesn't have the charisma to pull it off.

4. Williams and Jordan need to be shot for allowing Schumaker to make it from 8th all the way up to 3rd. Get some tactics chaps

student in Debt,
1) are you basing that on fact or on "potential"?!

2) Very True!

3) Possibly

4) If Williams and Jordan had run the same strategy as Ferrari and Mclaren they wouldn't have had any chance of running at that pace.

Coulthard is obviously number 2 in the team and no matter what people say, I believe that no F1 team can mut 100% into 2 cars.

Remember last season, it was amazing how Irvine's performance improved after Schumacher broke his leg! Ferrari focussed their attentions onto Irvine as he then became Number 1 driver.

If Coulthard could secure 1st driver status at McLaren, maybe he would stand a better chance of winning the championship.
(break a leg Mika!) jk.

To answer DC's critics, if he's and also-ran, why are McLaren sticking with him?

ferrari will never win the F1 title, because they are too weak and have to work so much harder than McLaren just to stay within a few tenths of a second, even with the worlds best driver behind the wheel.
