Sunspot 798 - Aurora Pics ?
Just wondering if any drivers that operated at the time that 798 was active managed to snap any pictures of the Aurora from above the weather ?
(failing that, despcriptions would be just as good...)

Haven't tried photographing it, photos taken at night through cockpit windows usually don't come out well.
However - visually it was impressive. Its common enough to see bright displays from time to time, with a 'shimmering' effect - but this was the first time I've ever seen the AB actually strobing, and I mean rapidly flashing, probably at about two flashes per second in rippling wave like patterns. Fantastic sight.
The HF was murder though!

Aurora can be photographed from the flight deck ( if I ever get my act together I'l post some here)...400 ISO film ( film??? eeekk), 10 or 20 secs exposure with a 50mm lens at f2.8 will do the trick for bright aurora provided you brace the camera against the aircraft structure and there's no turbulence.
