Where to (and not to) live near Finningley
A quick request about where to live near the soon to be opened Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Anyone know the area well enough to advise where and where not to choose? I have viewed several houses on the various online estate agents, but not visited the area yet.
The road links look pretty bad to the airport at the moment, but I guess will improve in time. One place I have seen is in Woodfield Plantation, Balby, which looking on a map appears to require a drive into Doncaster and then back out again to get to the airport. How long would this take when quiet.....and when busy?
Another is a modern hous between Rossington and New Rossington, which looks a fair bit closer, but appears to be more expensive? Any thoughts?
And one last question, what is the general state of play with the housing market over there at present? I have seen a couple that have been reduced in price, is it time of year or is the market a little depressed at present?
Thanks for any help.

I'd try pick somewhere out towards the East to live, into Lincolnshire if needs be, as you *may* get better value for money.
Many of the area's around Doncaster were/are run down after most of the pits closed down, so although cheap, might not be what you want. Things are getting a lot better though !!!!
Depends on what kind of life you want really, if your happy to live in a small town/village, and will drive into Doncaster to visit Tesco's once a week kinda thing, then go for Epworth or somewhere like that.
If you want to be out on the lash in Doncaster every Friday and Saturday night, then you might want to live closer in.

If you go South on the A1 towards Newark you will be looking at a reasonably pleasant area with a drive of around 35 - 45 mins to Fin.
If you go East, avoid Gainsboro: Lincoln is around 45 minutes away. The villages to the North are maybe 35 minutes if you push it.
Further West, Sheffield is OK and Wakefield isn't too bad.
Depends how close to the airport you want to be. Lot of RAF guys lived Westwoodside way and even more in Lincoln.

Thanks guys,
Just finished a series of flights and have read your replies. Thanks for the input. Looking for a second home, probably 3 bed, modern (don't need even more DIY!), looking at renting a couple of rooms out to other flight/ cabin crew so would close be better, or do you think closer to the town be better (I don't know just how quiet the areas around the airport are)? I would guess that to rent to either proximity would be an issue, but shall we say, flight deck would prefer a quieter location with a decent pub (or two) and CC would prefer something a little more lively?!?
Thanks again

PP,
I've heard Doncaster is quite lively at night...and probably should be avoided!
Sheffield for a second home isnt far from the airport (45mins) and looking at your location of EGCC, not far from there either.
Good luck!
