Asiana Airlines

Hey guys..I need some advice on Asiana Airlines. I looked around all the asiana threads..all info is somewhat old, so I decided to start a new thread.

I am currently working in my home country, TT 3200, A320 time 2050. Have been looking at relocating myself to a foreign land, and applying to airlines for the same. I applied to Asiana Airlines through Parc, heard back from Parc and I need some advice.

I am looking at moving as a 320 F/o. The contract terms are 3 yrs renewable. Salary USD 6500 after tax, including accommodation.

How is Asiana to work with. How is the work environment and do they treat expats well. Are they a 'my way or the highway' kinda guys or you get your space as a pilot. Read in a thread that the accommodation offered is not great, and also no transport provided when in base, how true is that.

What abt the growth possibilities in the company. Do they upgrade expat p2 to left seat, or maybe to a wide body? Is the contract generally renewed at the end of 3 years, and is there a possibility of the contract ending up a permanent job as any point of time?

How is Seoul as a place to stay, in terms of cost of living, infrastructure, recreation, transportation, safety, etc etc.

Any info is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Well...

Had an experience with Parc/Asiana, may years ago.
Parc use to be top of notch, don't know about nowadays. Asiana is a good airline, though you'd have to adapt to their cultural values and way to do things. There's plenty of material to study here.
Standards are pretty strict and you are required to have a humble and nice attitude. Expect to be fairly treated.

Upgrade to left seat is highly improbable, but who knows?
Seoul is a quantum leap on whatever you could have in India. Absolute first world metropolis.

Good luck!

What i gather from the posts here is that Parc is ok..Rishworth or 'Rishworse' as is called more often is something better steered clear of..

Adapting to the local traditions and the companies ways is fine by me...I am humble my nature so they should not have any problems if I do get a changce to work wid them..

My main concern is upgrade..I understand that the average age of a P1 is well above 40's internationally, but we Indians have been spoilt as we have guys in early 20's flying in command..I dont want a upgrade immediately..but would like the company I join to have a policy where I can be hopeful atleast..someting on the lines as offered by Emirates..which I have also applied to btw..

I guess Seoul would definitely be a better place than where I am now..will do some reading on that..

Captain

As I can see you're concerned about a captain upgrade.
So, as you pointed out, if you have an opportunity to have a relatively fast such upgrade in your own country I really don't see the point in trying something so distant, on many ways, outfit.

Go to Indigo/GoAir, they will need a lot of drivers and expect a fast command upgrade. If you are really keen of tasting some years abroad it would be a lot easier with some 3K PIC on your pocket.
Please let me know what you're really looking for.

As for Asiana upgrading expat FOs never heard about such policy before.
May I suggest you to contact Parc on this regard.

Good luck,

FF

Thansks FF for ur replies..
Cheers..!!

Career with Asiana Airlines

Is it possible to join Asiana as F/O and have a good career for the rest of your life? Like one day become a captain, and upgrade from A320 to A330 or something bigger?
Or is Asiana just an airline to spend some time and leave as soon as you can?

I'm thinking of applying for A320 F/O, but I need your help with this!

Thanks!

Hello Asiana Pilots! Anyone there?
This is Planet Earth Calling!

FORGET ABOUT IT

Hellooooo!....

Welcome to real life!

- no chance to move to left seat with Asiana and on 90% of the cases. One of the few is EK, but they only consider in case you join with tons of airline jet time, command included.

- stable career? Were, how, when? Being expat no chance anywhere, except maybe at the sand pit or of course at home.

Sorry for the bitter pill.:{

Good luck.

Skindogg 8th Mar 2012 06:18

Upgrade is unlikely. It hasn't happened here before but that's because expat f/o's are a relatively new thing. It may happen but it would probably take close to ten years!
What this is good for is steady money, interesting flying, reasonably good benefits and.....

Any questions PM me

Skindogg 25th Apr 2012 05:00

Incheon airport is located on an island, so to get to it is going to take a little longer than it would take to travel to Gimpo for example. There are a few different options to get to Incheon, some people get a bus directly. This can take between 40mins to 1 hour plus, depending on where you live. Other people drive/get a bus/train to Gimpo then take the bus from there. This takes 35 minutes.
The standard of apartments is high. The company however are trying to locate the expats outside of the city due to the expense. By "outside of the city" I mean, 20-30 minutes from the city centre so not bad.
Like in most places, if you want a car, you buy a car. It makes life easier. Most people I know have one, it is not necessary though.
"walking one km to get food"..... I doubt it.

Hope this helps

asiana seems to be hiring very low experience pilots

what seems to be the desperation?

captain requirement a mere 500 hours?

LouthGirl 1st Apr 2014 15:32

320 captain position

Details from anyone already working there?

Rishworse mentions a salary of 10,500$ and a accommodation.

Is that good enoug? Haven't ever been to Seoul, seems like an expensive place though!

LouthGirl 2nd Apr 2014 15:23

Anyone?? Any info?

I would also add, that they're using the expat F/Os to fly with their newly upgraded unexperienced local captains...

Asiana expats! Anybody home!?

All we need is information, please...

hu1124 3rd Jan 2015 10:21

Hi guys....I have been in Asiana for more than 4 years now. I'm a FO on the B744. I can't really answer some of the questions for the a320. I enjoy working here because 744 schedule is pretty easy. Usually I get 15 days or more per month. I know a320 has a different patterns and they work more. I talked to a lot of local Korean FO from a320, they all seemed to enjoy b744 better than a320. I can try to answer some questions about the company.

Clown330 3rd Jan 2015 10:29

Thank you!

Have you any info about A330 pilot lifestyle?

:)

hu1124 3rd Jan 2015 10:35

A330 is much better than a320... It has more long haul flights. But in AAR only b777 and b744 are consider long haul. With that said... 777 and 747 can schedule 8 days per month. Consecutive or spilt up and the 330 or 320 can only do it every other month. You will still get the 12 days off per month tho.

Skindogg 3rd Jan 2015 10:45

They don't hire onto A330. For A320, the schedule is like this. Month one, 5 days off, month two, 8 consecutive days off plus and extra 3. Therefore 16 days off over two months.
More of the good layovers are going to a330 or 767/777. Still, there are a few nice stops in Saipan, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh, etc, etc.
For A320, there is quite a lot of domestic flights. Depending on various circumstances....it could be between 20-75% of your monthly schedule.

Any specific questions, please feel free to ask.

Clown330 3rd Jan 2015 11:46

Many thanks for your information, gentlemen!

Asiana is hiring A330 DEC. I'm going to Seoul in two weeks
for screening.

hu1124 3rd Jan 2015 23:37

Ok...good luck. Dress warm. Pretty cold in seoul now

Skindogg 4th Jan 2015 07:28

My apologies, yes they are hiring Captains. Not first officers on the 330 though.

Clown330 4th Jan 2015 16:07

Thanks guys!

Do you have any info about medical evaluation, air law exam
and sim check?

Skindogg 6th Jan 2015 11:59

Hi,

Medical check is quite thorough. If there is anything wrong with you, they will find out. They won't fail you for stuff like high cholesterol or being overweight as long as everything else is ok.

Your agency should provide you with feedback questions for the Air Law exam. They should also send you the Korean AIP for reference so if you have the time, you should look at this too. There are a lot of questions about penalties and fines. It seems when something goes wrong, a fine will fix everything!! :ugh:

Sim check, I can't comment on what they are looking for from 330 guys but it will be pretty straight forward with the usual engine failures etc.

Hope this helps

Can you highlight interwiew details fo first officer position A-320

Skindogg 14th Jan 2015 11:51

Asiana interview for A320 first officer.

This info is from several years back but I imagine it is quite similar to how it is done today.
Overall process includes interview, medical, sim check and Korean Air Law exam.

The interview is really a chat with a HR person. No tech questions, just an informal get to know you session.

Medical is quite thorough and covers pretty much everything. I don't know about laser surgery, you will have to ask your agency.

Sim check is pretty straightforward. Usual V1 cut, single engine ILS then go around. Maybe a TCAS event. Also a circling approach in RKPK (Busan). They will brief you on the special procedures for this before hand. Basically you fly 15 seconds from abeam the threshold and then turn base to land.

Your agency should supply you with sample questions for the air law exam. If they are any good, they will give you a copy of the Korean AIP too so you can study that too. The exam itself is done online. You submit your answers and you find out immediately if you pass or fail.

hope this helps.

Clown330 15th Jan 2015 14:12

Skinndog

Thanks for your info.

In Air Law Exam some questions are from Annexes ( fuel, oil, when no need for addition fuel in flight plan ).

Where is it possible to find out these Annexes?

And one more question about circle-to -land.
At what altitude civil aircraft must perform circling
in RKPK?

I think at 1500', but timing must be calculated as for 700' ( about 20 sec for calm conditions).

Many thanks for your help.

Skindogg 16th Jan 2015 11:23

Your agency should provide you with everything you need for the air law exam. If they don't, they're not doing their job.

For the Busan approach, you need to request 1100 feet. You will be fully briefed on how it should be flown before the sim. They will tell you exactly what to do, so no need to worry.

Hope this helps

Latest on Recruitment

Any new info? Thank you. Sent a couple of pms.

Didacts and Narpets 4th Aug 2015 10:24

Nope

Poor contract and the agencies particularly, aviationcv of Lithuania, are terrible. Emilija at aviationcv is not at all pleasant to deal with. Rishworth is just as bad. The devil is in the details. All I can say is that I am not at all impressed with Asiana and it's recrcuiters. :ugh:

DescendNow 6th Jan 2016 13:02

ASIANA and PUS Approach

THe details you need for the circling approach are as follows:

The standard altitude is 1620' but on request can be 1100 ft flown from the LOC 36L approach.

Ignore the 6-700ft on Jep as there is a note that states ATC can issue lower clearance subject to military circuit traffic.

You will not get this.
I suggest you also look at the VOR-A approach as this is the new baby.

Good luck with the sim

Hey
