Jetstar Asia Recruitment process
Howdy,
I have a friend who is going for a Jetstar Asia interview in the near future, any recent info regarding the process and typical interview/sim outline? Cancel IFR |
Hi,
It's no big secret, but I'd tell your friend to pull his finger out and do his own research. :hmm: You asked for it: The interview is a pleasant experience. Expect to have a panel of 5 people interviewing you. The people you can expect to see are: Chief Pilot Head of flying operations Flight Ops Manager Head of Human Resources Human resources Executive (No names, because if you are serious you can do the research. I did.) They are all very good people. You will be asked technical and personal questions, ranging from things to do with the aircraft to common aviation related subjects. Sample questions "What are vortex generators? What do they do? where do you find them on the A320?" "How does the WX radar work?" "Show us on the white board how TCAS works." "What are the biggest threats to safety when operating in Asia?" "What do want to achieve at Jetstar?" "What do you know about life in Singapore?" "Why do you think you will be happy here?" My most important bit of advice, is to ask them how much detail do they want you to go into. If they don't give you an idea, just give a block of information then stop and they will encourage you to expand if they want you to. Jetstar Asia want to hire a great guy to work with, so don't be angry a*** hole. One Captain came for an interview from AirAsia X and he attacked AirAsia throughout the whole interview. The result, I heard Dickie saying they could never employ someone who so openly and angrily criticize their previous company. He did add, that is okay to have an opinion, it is how you express it defines the man. You will go into the simulator. Expect: 1. Normal take off, hand flown. 2. Incept a radial while hand flying and using raw data. 3. Steep turns in both directions. First at 25 degrees bank then 45 degrees, with only the bird. 4. Hand flown visual approach to land. 5. Engine Fire/Failure after Take Off all the way to landing (Note landing will be single engine and hand flown. Auto Pilot is available for the whole flight until this point.) Use your own SOPs, you will not be expected to know Jetstar's. Last but not least GOOD LUCK :ok::ok::ok: |
Touch'n'oops thank you for a great answer. My friend didnt have pprune at the time as it is not very known in this part of the world. He has started an account now though so expect to see a PM pop upp in your inbox in the near future if thats alright. Thanks again for the help!

What are the biggest threats to safety when operating in Asia?" |
need some info.
Hello, dear pilots.
I just curious, Is there any place where I can find out jet star Asia’s T&C? I tried to do homework in PPRUNE, but it doesn’t looks like updated or has information what I want. I have heard the roster is usually in the form of ‘5 early 2 off and 5 late 4 off’-I’m not sure -. And Qantas staff travel for employee and family. Do they still hire DEC? How much do I expect to get per year? How about medical insurance? I don’t think Jetstar Asia will cover house and educational allowance. So I should pay by myself. Am I right? Are they friendly to pilots? If you have any trouble in Singapore, can you get any help from company? How is the relationship with chief pilot or executive members with line pilots? If someone can tell me past thread or PM me, Please don’t hesitate, and I’ll appreciate anything from you. Happy landings.:ok: |
Hi Touch n Oops,
Thanks for the detailed info. Is what you wrote as the questions being asked during the interview for the ab-initio guys or the advanced guys? Cause I think its a bit too technical for ab-intio to be asked about vortex generators and all... Let me know ya.. By the way, anyone here know the deadline for applying for the Jetstar Ab-initio program for the June intake? |
very straightforward in every aspect!
Don't worry too much! just enjoy the whole process, and you will get the job! |
According to Jetstar Australia's website, the company is looking for 320 and 330 F/O's to be based in Singa's, so Im assuming the recruit process for the 320 is through Jetstar Asia and the 330 is done through Jetstar Aust. How do I know ?....Ive just been through it, for the 330 though

For Jetstar's T&Cs go to http://www.ppjn.com
No housing and the medical insurance is very basic. It is designed to cover treatment in government hospitals, but won't be able to cover something serious like cancer. My view, if my health takes a dive, I'm bolting back to my country. Recently the chief pilot has instructed pilots that are on their days off and want to leave S'pore, must seek permission from Ops. :ugh: They can ***** that idea! btw, if you work a day off, you get an extra $100 SGD... hahahaha... I think the same quote goes. If you want the A330, you will actually be joining Jetstar "International", which will not pay you as well as Jetstar Asia. Jetstar knows that there are a lot of pilots that would fall over them selves for the A330, so why not exploit it. To be honest, I couldn't care about flying the A330 and all the hotel nights away from home. But hey, none of the guys going onto the 330 have a gun to their head! However, despite the short falls in medical insurance, the silly business of having to ask permission to leave the country and the A330 contract, Jetstar has been a very good company to work for. I work hard, but the guys I fly with are a very friendly bunch and the training is very good... I would even to go as far as saying the training is better than my last company, which by the way is well know for it's impecable safety record. :ok: Oh and I haven't had much contact, but a lot of the guys don't approve of the CEO. Apparently she is doing everything very last minute. e.g. Allowing new aircraft to arrive then worrying about crewing it and trying to save a few thousand over five years on soap, rather than trying to find new ways of saving fuel in a safe manner. My view, I would rather be left to save fuel where I see fit and not have a dangerous Ryanair situation!!! |
For the guys who have been invited for an assessment with OAA for the Jetstar Asia Ab-Initio Pilot Training, be cautioned that some parties may just be purely interested in making some quick $$$$ out of this recruitment. As we all know candidates 'selected' for the interview have to pay $400 SGD first before the assessment slot is confirmed. I applied for the ACP as I have a CPL/IR with a couple of hundreds of flying hours, and jet time as well. But guess what, I got an email reply asking me to fill up a form which turned out to be the standard Ab-Initio Application Form. I filled up the form anyway and submitted it to them, asking for clarification as to why I was required to fill up an Ab-Initio Form when I was applying for ACP. But no reply and explanation was given, till subsequently I got an email invite for guess what? The assessment for Ab-Initio position scheduled in June, with all the detailed instructions for making the $400 payment. Again I emailed them asking to clarify what was going on, and sadly still no reply to date. This whole thing just disgusts me, the fact that pilots like us have gotten to such a desperate state these days that even FTOs have no qualms about exploiting the whole situation for some quick bucks.

The culture of Loss of Face? |
Anyone knows ??
"What are the biggest threats to safety when operating in Asia?" Weather? traffic congestion? |
My view, the biggest threats WX and ATC.
WX: have you seen how big, high and fast those CBs grow out here? ATC: Medan Radar "Turn right heading 220" Me" um that's going to takes us into terrain in 5 miles at this altitude?!" Medan Radar "Okay Left heading 120" |
Nope, bit of a myth is that |
According to their website, Jetstar Asia is hiring Captains.

Jetstar Pacific 737 Ops.
Hi folks,
I see there is lot of write up on Jetstar Asia, but nothing on Jetstar Pacific!! Recently got an email from Parc advising me of this great opportunity in Vietnam. Any info. would be highly appreciated. Happy flying NN |
Hi there!
Any other info about Jetstar Asia recruitment? Which scenario and airports can be expected at the simulator? Thanks much!:ok: Moto |
It is as I have written. There won't be any tricky dicky stuff. Enough guys fail by just trying to fly the basic test profile.
The airport is WARR, but you will be told to treat it as a generic airport. The SID they get you to fly is simple and only requires two easy radial intercepts. |
Welcome aboard Starskate!!!
Now can you workout who I am? ;) |
After the initial phone call/email from J* what is the following process for the recruitment?
|
Jetstar Asia....
Thanks to everyone reagrding the info for the screening!!:D... going next month........:ooh: lets see what are the results.....
Once in JetStar; any bond for the A320?.... is the notice period 3 months?..... as a silly question....i am not sure what plane i applied.... A320 or A330?..... If going for the A320( i am rated) do we have to prepare for any studies to get a new licnese? or the JAR ATPL is far enought?.... Do they want us to start as soon as posible?..... Chances of upgrade and how long it takes?..... Ufff , i know..... too many questions.:O:O Thanks in advance!!:ok: Nice landings!:ok: |
No bond for those with rating, but there is one for command upgrade... Dream on, you're interviewing for A320... Of course it's 3 months... You'll have to do Airlaw... If you have less than 2000hrs on A320 CAAS tech exam... "When CAN you start?"... 5 brand spanking new A320 before end of this year and next... Command if you got hours and don't f'up in the sim expect 1 year, subject to everything...
If you get in PM me for the air law study guide... Go get em Tiger... But don't go to Tiger! |
T&o
Well, thanks for such a fast answer!!;)
I am rated and plentyyyyy of hrs onA320, so no bond....good! Really looking foward to join!, screening in Sept.... if i get in for sure i will post u. Thank u very much indeed!:ok: nice landings! |

Beg pardon, folks, but I was wondering if the Aussie ATPL is a hard-and-fast requirement for application to any part of the Jetstar family. I exceed all other requirements as posted on the recruitment site for 320 fo, but most operators are understandably reluctant to allow a random Yank to darken their doorstep.
|
ATPL
You need a foreign ATPL to even be issued a Singaporean CPL.
If you meet the Singapore ATPL requirements you will then be issued it, don't ask me the requirements but think its 3000 hrs multi crew? |
DEC Interview
Anyone done the DEC interview ?
|
Well, the last furlough has me shy of the 3000 multi crew, but I do meet the stated requirements for the job and an Aussie ATPL. Looks like that's the route to go, since going direct from US to Singaporean license is verboten. Thanks for the heads-up.
edit: Just double-checked the application requirements for JetStar, and read that in addition to the Australian ATPL, passes are required "in all Australian ATPL subjects or equivalent." Is that their way of saying "locals only, converted foreigners need not apply"? |
wondering if you guys have any ideas the Advanced Cadet Program offered by jetstar is only for locals or international candidates as well?
thanks a lot for further info. cheers |
takamasa, not restricted to locals.
|
You need 3000 hrs TT to be issued a Singapore ATPL if converting from a foreign license otherwise you will get a CPL till you get 3000TT and relevent MCC time etc.
|
I think Skateys' spin turns may have left a few Stars in his eyes. He missed out the bit, where if you take the "sign on bonus" and then leave within the specified time, then you have to pay it all back. Sort of a "bond" if you like yeah.

starskate
Thanks for your detail.
Mind giving me some more advise, I will soon have 1500 hrs,at least. and which 500 hrs will be on Kingair/B1900. With my TT and ATPL, would they consider my application? Or should i fund myself for an A320 type rating before applying? thanks a lot Best regards |
takamasa, under the Jetstar course, you pay and they train your TR. If you arrive with your own TR, they will make you pay again and do the TR again because what you learnt elsewhere is not suitable for them.
Go figure. |
Just apply to Jetstar Pacific in Vietnam instead, they have a much better system. A world first.
Not only do you pay for your type rating, but apparently you also get to pay for your own bond as well! This must ensure your continued dedication and commitment. Don't worry about licencing either - My friends tell me ATPLs issued by western nations are okay, but you would probably have a good chance with one from Angola, Sierra Leone or Burkina Faso. Infact, just bring your car or motorbike licence. |
taka, if TR'd with hours, you'd be DE, not cadet. :ugh:
|
Hey Touchnoops, thanks for the info :ok:. May I request you for some salary info and advice on long term career with jetstar Asia. Would be of great help in deciding, to apply or not. Thanks:O
|
Any hiring updates?
|
Given the recent news that the singapore based 330's will now be crewed by imported jetstar australia pilots and that the jetstar asia singapore 320 pilots are averaging only 55-65 hours permonth, i guess any new-hires' would be a snowballs chance in a red hot wok!!!
