Air China contract job

Hi,

Anybody here who took the job at Air China through a well known contracter. They are advertising the job on their website and heve sent me the general info regarding the contract and interview.

Would like to hear from somebody who took the job there and can give some info on rosters, atmosphere, lifestyle etc...

Thanks,

Twieke

Stay away from this contract.
Brokers like Parc, Brookfield have the contract but they fool you as soon as you sign.

They lie about basings, OFF days, rosters , everything that matters when you take these contracts.

Brokers try to decrease the T&C's in Air China's back or knowledge, who knows.

No trust

Don't even consider

Stay away

Reading you 5 :ok:.

Thanks, kinda figured it would be something like that.

T&C's erroding on a monthly basis. All brokers play dirty games.
If you have a job elsewhere, then stick to it.
Grass is no greener here.

Interesting observations since, according to your own posts, you were enquiring about the job yourself only a month ago. It's hard to imagine how your observations could be based on personal experience as opposed to rumour or hearsay from 3rd parties.

Given that, one wonders why you'd consider yourself qualified to offer advice about Air China to anyone else.

Its simple , he got turned down by Air China , is now stuck in the ME and is pissed about it

Interersting comments because I'm hearing that the Air China A330 basing in Vancouver is one of the sweetest deals out there right now.

Not turned down yet.....

Ask the aussies there if they didn't have contract changes when renewal was due recently... different hard OFF days conditions , overtime payment issues for instance

Have your facts right before hammering.... see you soon in the sandpit....

I know at least 3 guys there on the 330 YVR and love it and another on the 744, dont know where he is based but likes it. Each to his own.

Well, as I have more of the facts at hand than you do my suggestion would be that you need to start tweaking the squelch on your receiver ... right now you are confusing signal and noise.

Sometimes noise is just ... noise.

Guys, can someone give me some info of Air China.

1. What do they mean with "functional command hours" do they consider P1/US and relief time?

2. Can the Chinese pilots talk to you in english, or is it a one man show?

3. Do you fly with 4 man (2CP and 2FO)? who get's the sector? Always the Chinese CP?

4. Is it true that you get out of the seat one hour after take off and then the relief crew takes over and you get to the front just one hour before landing?

5. Is it worth going there and leaving a major carrier in Hong Kong considering you want a basing and a command position.

I really appreciate honest answers.
Thank you!

nobody working there?

PROBEUSMC 14th Aug 2010 15:11

In the last 2 months I have had dinner with about 10 expat pilots at Air China in Beijing. None of them bitched about the job, at all. They had a few minor complaints, but none were looking for another job. Europeans and Canadians. 0 out of ten complained. That is a !@#ing slam dunk if 50 percent are not whining continuously. Sounds like a good deal to me. Go for it.

el commandante 17th Aug 2010 04:35

thank you PROBEUSMC for the answer. What kind of background did the guys have? All 330 commanders?

Thank you!

They were all widebody guys. Most, if not all, A330. I did not ask them all. All home based in Europe, Canada, or Australia.

Some facts

Air China plans on 500 Expats (yes that is correct!) eventually.
Just last week the 1st 2 330 Cp's renewed their 330 contracts. Their 2 years were up so that tells you they are happy after negotiating for 5 months.
The company DID try to change the T&C's by "trying" to reduce days off at Base, and a few other tricks.
The lastest is that we are all to fly 10 hrs. on inner Chinese sectors iso. just International. The "locals" are bitching that they are loosing too much $ due to them being bumped off these Int'l sectors.
The majority of us have said "No way to the inner Chinese sectors".
Almost all of the Expats here are "collective minded", so that means we have a pretty strong voice and they few who bend will not affect the majority.
The real bonus here is that the CAAC requires ALL Int'l sectors to be flown with double crews. So from an 80 hr. Block Month, you are actually 55% "in seat" the rest of your Duty is either bunking or relaxing.
Now when this all changes in the future to the world accepted 3 crew for long-haul, then the holiday will be over. Meaning you'll be working maybe 75% of the 80 hrs., performing more landings and being at risk of some form of penalties to their QAR monitoring.
The 744 Fleet seems to be run a lot different.
The Chinese portion of income tax is being paid which is at a rate of 20% of the Gross.

Brookfield Abused,

Reading through many of your posts I start wondering about some issues: in several posts you show deep insider knowledge about 737s. That’s perfectly ok.

On 16th July 2010 you offer very detailed insider knowledge about a Spring Airline contract: http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far...ml#post5812135
SSS is operating A320s, mainly from Shanghai.

On 21st September 2001 you wrote (http://www.pprune.org/terms-endearme...ml#post5205096)
I'm on the 330 Fleet with Brookfield
On 22nd October 2009 you wrote:
I'm based in BRU on the 330 with the rest (for Hainan Airlines).

On 9th July 2010 you wrote (http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far...#post5798302):
Another problem.
Once you start with your new Airline and Agent.
You simply cannot with the required Notice quit and go to another Chinese job.
Regardless of how you are treated, short payed or ignored.
Why - again the Airline has to release you through the CAAC!
Therefore it is a sure bet, you leave before your Agreement is over (1-3 yrs.) and you will be blacklisted in China for future employment by the CAAC with any airline.
NO WAY AROUND THIS!

Regarding „AIR CHINA contract job / Some facts“ (http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far...tract-job.html) you wrote on 19th August 2010:
The majority of US have said "No way to the inner Chinese sectors".

Now, what I and some of my fellow mates would like to know is how did you get such accurate informations about SSS? Did you pass through all these companies, switching from 737s to 320s and 330s? How did you manage to move from Hainan Airlines (I’m on the 330 fleet with Brookfield / based in BRU) to Air China (the majority of us said……..) though it seems to be absolutely impossible to do so (according your report).

Looking really forward to get more of your deep insider knowledge about jobs in China! :ok:

Happy landings!
