Just want to emphasize that Deer Air (now Capital Jet) has NEVER treated any of us like ****. We have been treated great.

does anyone know how to get the circling approach-VMC only limitation removed from the license???

Hi Dagar, check with your authoriry to find out the process, normally a training is needed to remove VMC.

Hello I am joining Capital at the begining of August and I wonder if someone out there could provide with some info about the intial training.

Training? What's that??? Just kidding, well not really! No clue on what they are doing now but when I went thru it was a straight fwd DIY systems and GOM/FOM crapola! :}

Hello I have not started yet I am due to be in PEK on Aug 3rd so I will find out then.
Never been in VIet so I could not comment on that one, very picky for other peoples comments though.

Star, as far as I know, no PIC and current on equipment, no job! As per the CAAC.

Also FO positions are non existent for foreigners in China, except for RJ's and 170-190's at the most.

Bad news as I have many friends in your same position...

Sorry, but I have no additional info, no clue on agency, etc.! Maybe direct contract.

PanAm can remove your circling restriction. About 1K for the cost. They can find you a sim partner sometimes.

CAE also has a program (FAA certified) to remove the restriction. Maybe Pan Am does as well. I did it with FTI, and had to do it twice, as their program was not certified (my second was the certification sim).

I am currently in China with Capitol/Deer. I have been here almost 2 months, with pay, but still haven't turned a wheel (or stick). We have been treated very well, but it is very disorganized.

With all Chinese carriers you need to get a Chinese ATPL (written test), medical, and after that they apply for an airport ID, which is a security background check. Until you get thru this, you ain't working here. Air China does it before they have you come to work here. Capitol does it after you get here. The difference? You may not "pass". If you are from a country that doesn't comply with their paperwork standards, you may not pass, even if you are a friggin astronaut. There is a pilot from Europe that came here in May. They sent him home because his background check was taking too long. I thought he would eventually come, but I asked 3 days ago and they said "probably not". Maybe they don't want to spend the time. I don't know. I DO KNOW that if this guy gave up his last job, he got screwed.

Capitol has also changed their screening (maybe it will change again tomorrow). Now you have to come twice, once for the ATP and medical, and after that the sim. Then a 3rd time to come to work, after which they apply for your ID (security check), which you may not pass. Very difficult if you currently have a job. And if you give it up, and come and THEN fail the security check, you are done.

I think it will work out OK for me, but I am not sure if I could recommend it to anyone until they figure out what they are doing. If you are unemployed go for it, but to give up a job, and then have a reasonable chance of not getting this one, may not be worth the risk.

I have a friend at Deer Air/Capital Air , he has been there 2 years and likes it. It is true most Chinese carriers are disorganised and it is a long process from start to completion of line training. The risks are high in China for the pilot who signs an agency contract. Seems agents and Chinese carriers try to block the pilot from working else where in China if he leaves the airline, in some cases fails the process. Sometimes pilots spend 6 months trying to get through the process and the end game fails somewhere along the line. Then leaves and looks for another job, very painful. Some pilots are out 3000 to 5000 USD in air tickets, hotels and never get reimbursed. Just make sure before you make the first move you have a GOOD Agency, and Airline you want to work for from the get-go.

Make sure in your agency is a good one, and your contract has language on who pays Taxes, when you get paid, training pay, reimbursements and after you complete you contract you will get a release letter (make sure it is quick) to work at another Chinese carrier if you like.

Are they reliable? I have heard they don't pay on time, etc...
