Hi there! Anybody on board who works for June Yao Airlines? I have an interview pending with them, and I am looking for the general attitude within the company, the QoL, and how they are to work for as a pilot. Any info from JuneYao employees, especially expat contract employees would be helpful. Thanks! -locopiloto

Well, by looking at their route structure one would be based out of Shanghai Hong Qiao airport. Shanghai probably offers some of the best QOL in China.

It's a domestic airline flying primarily north/south routings out of Shanghai.

Yes, a lot of people know how to Google, but apparently not a lot know how to read the information they Google to help answer their questions.

I heard pay is 14k USD per month for A320 Captain.
Base is Shanghai.
I also was told by someone joining that you carry an interpretor:confused: in the cockpit, Sounds a bit far fetched but the pay is correct I understand.

Pay rate is accurate and flying with an interpretor is accurate. I went for an interview in June and both checkairmen could not speak english. Very few FO's speak any english and are low time to boot. A "high time" FO is 2000-2500 total.

Are they hiring FO?
 

Do you guys know if 1300 hrs total time could make the cut for an FO position?

JuneYao is currently not hiring any F/Os, unless you are ready to fly their planes, that is with a CAAC licence and time on A320 with chinese type rating. If you have all that then you may have a chance. I already tried and unfortunately it didn't work out. Lots of my co-workers being here in China too tried as well and had the same answer, even with the best contacts within the company. But again, if you never try you will never have an opportunity, so... you might want to try anyways, worse that can happen is a "no".

I was supposed to go for interview with Juneyao on October 26th but it has been cancelled because they can't book the ATPL, this is what my agency says anyway. Has this happened to anyone else?

All the time. Huge issue here as the exam slots are very limited!!! Only one place in PEK for the written. Kinda extreme and archaic if you as me, but that's how things are done here!

Working on a November eval slot with them. I also have an interview in Qatar in November. Any more input on the eval process?

He is taking eval From 27th Oct to 3rd Nov for Juneyao.
His agency is ASSA. Heard Juneyao guys give a chance to only a few agency. :hmm:

Avoid JuneYao if you can
 

I would be very cautious about joining JuneYao Airlines. There are about ten foreign pilots at JuneYao and most have encountered several serious problems with the airline.

1. About every three to four months, they will be late with the pay. In order to be paid, 6-8 leaders must sign off . If one is away on business or simply believes you don’t deserve to be paid, you will be waiting to receive the wire. One guy waited almost a month for his pay.

2. Days off have also been a serious issue. As they are severely short of Captains, they will deny your leave request and try to keep you here against the contract. In some cases, they have offered to a buy owed days at a very generous rate. Unfortunately, every pilot who agreed to sell his days was later told the company decided not to honor the agreement. A few guys were owed 60+ days and when the payday arrived the company denied ever making the deal then denied further days off.

3. Communication with the company is very difficult. AOC (dispatch) will not speak to a foreign Captain if anything out of the ordinary happens. They will only speak to the first officer. Even if you call them directly, they will refuse to discuss the issue directly with you and will request to speak with the first officer. Often, they will call the F/O directly and make changes and neither one will consult the Captain. It’s only when the fuel, cargo, or passengers are loaded will you know there has been a change made to the dispatch release. When you query the F/O they will you know about the change. Some F/O’s are obviously better than others about keeping you informed but you must remind them over and over again about keeping the Captain in the loop.

4. Scheduling at the company is yet another problem. It’s not uncommon to schedule a two pilot crew a 16-hour duty day. They consider any break in the day “rest” which will stop the duty day clock. One trip departs 0605 for a two-hour trip. The crew arrives in Shanghai about 9 then goes home for 6 hours. You then return about 3 pm to fly two legs totalling 5.5 hours. This puts you back in Shanghai about 2100-2200 if there aren’t any delays.


You will work 4 days on then almost two days off. The first two days will start a 0600 or so and the last two days will be late. You often finish day four at 0200 (on the morning of your fifth day). I find it hard to get into a routine.

5. Any issues flying will result in punishment (loss of pay). A lightning strike will result in you being grounded for the rest of the month with a loss of pay. Same for hard landings (even if it’s the F/O’s fault), and there has been talk of punishment for bird strikes.

6 JuneYao has refused to pay every single pilot who has left the company. Some have only lost their last month’s pay, but several were owed two months or more. One guy left with JuneYao owing him over $60000 (vacation days bought back by the company which weren’t paid).

Don’t take my word………If you are thinking about joining JuneYao, I would highly recommend speaking with as many of the pilots working here as possible to gain a clear understanding of how the company operates. Your agent should be able to provide the phone number of a few guys here. Talk to them. Just remember, the agent will probably give you the number of a guy who has the least problems with the company. Ask that pilot to give you the number of at least two other pilots. All the foreign guys here are friendly and will be happy to tell you if things have improved or if it’s business as usual.

One last warning! If you decide to join anyway, you also need to be very cautious about working with VOR Holdings. I am fortunate enough not to be with them but every guy here has had serious issues dealing with that agent. This is third hand, so take it for what it’s worth but make sure you talk to one of the pilots placed through VOR Holdings. I’m sure they will tell you of the horror stories dealing with Ted once onboard. This is current as of Nov 2011. Things change so do your homework and talk with the guys working there.

Just don't get on here in 6 months whining about the conditions that were nowhere near what you were told...............you've been warned.

It was great that I came across your posting. I was toying with the idea of leaving my current job in southern China to move to the A320 and make 17G a month. But after reading what you had to say, I realized my company isn't so bad afterall.

By the way, a good friend of mine attended the screening they held in Mexico City, about a month or two ago. He told me, "that was more than enough to get to know them in order to decide to remain in Mexico..." truth is, these guys will have a hard time recruiting flyboys...

I read a lot of $$hit about Juneyao and VOR. But I am starting to get desperate. Does anyone actually have a contract with them ? Any thing on the contract I can ask to be changed ? Thanks for the help.

There are far better (or less bad) combinations of China jobs/contract agencies than VOR/June Yao. Why would you choose to join the worst? Shenzhen just raised their pay, Spring is similar, in the same city. I haven't heard a bad word about Sichuan Air for a long time. Why would you choose June Yao?

I just hear one of the latest news from JuneYao. One of the brand new pilots from Mexico, that just join them like 3 months ago, JuneYao already has stopped paying him for no reason. They are blaming him that he went home for three weeks and even that they had approved him to go home, now they said that it was a mistake, that they approved him to go home and now they stopped paying him.
That is always the way they play here. If you all want to come to be in the same boat with all this problems, is up to you all. My advise is that there are a lot more better companies here in China, where you don't have to deal with this kind of problems. Yes they offering a lot of money now $17K, but they don't tell you when they can stop paying you. For those that want to go to JuneYao, don't do it. They will promess every thing before you sign the contract, but then you are in their hands. They make you work 16hrs per day or more for 5 hrs flying. Actually the new contract is Sucks!!! They want to make you work as a Chinese pilot, until you die. The old contract was better (120 days off plus 8 sick days) and that's why they are not offering it anymore. They said that they had gotten a lot of foreign pilots to come to work here, but we haven't seen any. No body want to take their new contract. :ugh:
