Expats policy

hi everybody,

how is the indian policy about first officers (expat) in private airlines?
Last news was that it was going to change and expat pilots were going to be allowed as F/O in indian cockpits.

Does anybody know something?

give it some time and have the indians fly their own copilots. After a few accidents they will change their minds. AI had a no expat policy once I believe. Last I heard some ex-Aeroflot guys are now commanding the 777 there.

Most of those operators have already embarrased themselves trying to get their guys to get type ratings at Boeing and Bombardier without an ME/IFR and some a ME rating. What a joke.

Thanx for the information anyone can confirm what tex8vc said?

hpcock 2nd Aug 2006 09:48

Yeah tex8vc is along the right lines. At present it is mainly those operating ATR's (KF & Deccan) offering ex-pats work on the right hand seat, providing they already have an ATR rating & approx 250 -500 hrs on type.

:ok:

Airlines in india will NEVER hire an expat with a fresh CPL .. There are 3000 indian candidates taking classes for their CPL and will be lying around.
What airlines are looking at are people for whom they need not spend much on training - i.e they must be transition first officers ( with 1000hrs in Jets easy to convert into the type) or with a type rating and around 250-500 hrs on type.
The bigger problem is with the diminishing standards of the new pilots who are failing their type rating or their check rides ( No prejudice - just facts and numbers)
