Hvn B777

Hi!
I checked Vietnam a/l web-s. It says they've started operating B777.
I would like to know how are they operated (dry/wet lease), who flies them, what do they get?
Just curious.
Tnx

All expat pilots for hvn are hired via an agency. for the b777 this is presntly rishworth.

as far as i know there are no immediate requirements for b777 pilots as local pilots of the b767 will be trained. but you can check with rishworth.

but be aware vietnam is a different place to live and the airline is a different place to work, especially if you come from a "normal" airline.

As I understand it 2 of the 777's are owned, 2 are leased, and 2 more are coming next year for a total of 6.

Right now they have 5 767's but the plan is to be down to 3 by next year. (plans have a habit of changing with short notice)

Vietnamese pilots get preference on all types and positions, but they generally can't fill positions internally and rely heavily on Expats for all 4 types. (ATR72, A320/321, B767, B777)

There is a big need for A320/321 Captains and F/O's right now as they are expanding the Airbus fleet dramatically.

Up until now, all expat pilots must be current on type within the last 6 months in order to be considered. (1,500 hrs on type I think)

They are now saying they will even consider upgrades for current Expats from one type to another or from F/O to Captain.

The plan is to fly direct to California some day, so there is speculation that they will need 744's or A340's because they don't have ETOPS certification.

Vietnam is most definitely a different place to live, and the airline may not be a "normal" airline, but everyone I know likes it here. One reason is that you are able to commute almost anywhere with a 6 week on 2 week off schedule. Rumour is that it may go down to a 3 week on, 9 day off sched some time soon.

Generally the few that leave are going after more money or long term security.

I can think of many other less desirable places to live and work.

Carls&Msou

I was wit HVN 96/99.
It was full of crap.
We had to pamper the locals...
Last 2 we got befor my company lost d contract were wit 800h between d 2 of dem on mil jets. An we had to fly wit dese two guys w/o sec pilot!!! Nobody even bothered to send dem to a Jepp course! I gave a 4 h lecture on Jepp enroute from SGN to DXB...
My company - RGA was fighting wit RB and Ansett to keep d contarct... So d Boss used to say: "Guys just stay out of trouble"...
If HVN decided to demand someone's head, dey would normally get it on d platter...
We used to train for a "ONe Man Show"...
I hope its better now!
