Japan ANA To Bring China-Bound Services Back To Normal

TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- All Nippon Airways Co. (J.ANA or 9202) said Wednesday it will bring its China-bound services back to normal from mid-July, as fears about SARS are waning and the company expects to see a comeback in travel demand to the country.

All Nippon Airways, commonly known as ANA, cut its daily round trip flight services between Narita airport and Beijing to one from two in May as the disease spread. It halved services between Narita and Dalian, Liaoning province, to three a week.

ANA also suspended one daily flight between Osaka's Kansai airport and Beijing.

From July 11, ANA will bring all these China-bound services back to normal.

The company returned services to Hong Kong to normal from mid-June.

Earlier this week, the World Health Organization lifted its travel advisory on Beijing and simultaneously removed the country from its list of SARS-affected areas. Only Toronto and Taiwan remain on the list.

ANA has suspended one of its daily flights between Narita and Taipei until Aug. 31, and has yet to decide on whether to increase its Taiwan-bound services.

Also Wednesday, a spokeswoman at Japan Airlines System Corp. (J.JPA or 9205) said the company has made no decision on its services to China, and will take steps while monitoring the degree of demand for travel there.
