DEFO SQ

Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone would have an updated reviewer for air law and operational procedures exams for CAAS (Singapore) license conversion? I’m in the final stages of my application for Singapore Airlines and have no idea how to prepare for those exams. Any help provided would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Did they give you any details about the package and bonding?
Assuming you have interviewed already?

Hi captcooks,

Can I ask the details about the application process?

I'm not a Singapore Citizen nor PR and I applied on Sept '22, but then I got an info that they got a new web career portal, so I applied again in January '24 (no answer since Sept '22 other than the automatic reply "thank you for applying")

1. How long did they invite you for an assessment after you applied? (I assumed you applied via their career website)
2. Can I know more about the assessment details from the invitation up to your current stage?
3. Are you an expat or Singapore Citizen/PR?

Thanks and kind regards,

hi! I’m from the Philippines. I applied in Sept 2022 as well. They emailed me Oct 2023, asking me to answer their computer aptitude test online. In Nov they asked me to resubmit my application and documents on a new job portal. I was scheduled for an interview via Teams in Dec then scheduled for sim assessment in mid-January. Results came out a week after sim. Now in the process of scheduling for medical exams.

also passed sim. consider wether to take the offer or not. Since I am not citizen or PR. Fo might only get a second level work pass(S pass). and 10+ years to command. Can't decide if it's worthy the try.

Personally I don’t think you have anything to lose by trying to do the medical exams as well. After you pass the medical exams, that’s when you know you’re really in. But if where you are at right now is already satisfactory for you then that in itself is already a big factor in your decision making. Best to weigh the pros and cons for you. Where you are, when do you expect to become a captain?

I am 39. At the end of the day, if you think where you are working now is ultimately better for you, then stay there. Weigh the pros and cons, if you are still in doubt, don’t go. Be at peace with whatever your decision is. Good luck.

I've been a Captain for a number of years now, and I know of FO's who are making more than me, and who have a much better life than me. I'd swap jobs with them in a heartbeat.

Many Captains told me this same thing when I was a FO and I was searching for the Holy Grail of an upgrade, but the shiny glitter of the fourth stripe (and a lot of pressure from other FO's while having beers, I've never had a strong personality) precluded me from realizing this.

Just my two cents of a SGD...

Hello ! I've been thinking, if anyone here passed the SQ test with a CPL/IR license as well ? sometimes i wonder, whether to take ATPL in my country first, or just go with my latest CPL/IR License, does SQ will support/sponsored us, whenever one day we need to upgrade to ATPL for command training ?

I only have a CPL/IR license too but with all ATPL subjects passed. Just need to take conversion exams. I assume they would sponsor you since they would also benefit from that. In my observation of other airlines, it seems it’s mostly low cost carriers that require you to be rated already before they hire you to save on costs. Hope that helps. Best of luck!

Just to note, SQ do not sponsor for license conversion. Type rating comes with a huge bond. This was back kn 2019 so i am.not sure if things changed now.

To be realistic, nothing in life is free guys. This is only an issue if you have plans on breaching your contract. If you serve the 3 year contract, then there’s really no problem and you would have basically worked off the bond.

but for the license conversion, you would indeed need to shoulder the examination fees yourself. Air law and operational procedures, SGD150 ea.

Repose time after sim check

I completed my sim assessment 3 weeks ago and I’m still awaiting a mail from SQ. Do they reply with a rejection or does the wait mean I haven’t made it?

Yes they will advise of the outcome. For me it took around 6 weeks but this was back in 2019. For now no news is good news.
