Applied in July and yesterday got an email to re-apply again on their talent platform as my app was “in-progress”. Curious to know what their T&C’s are for DEC too.

Any info on school fees and housing costs in Singapore?
Thanks

I’m quite certain it’s the 737. In which case I withdraw my ‘short listed’ application.
Not downgrading for a few pennys more …

Unless SQ clarifies quickly … 🙄

Hard to know really, I believe is pay out of your pocket with the given salary.

When did you applied? Curious to see time between application and online interview invitation.

cheers!

After I applied on the new portal som 6-8 weeks ago. So if DEC salary total package is 21000 Singaporean I can imagine I would need to spend at least 6000 SGD/month for a decent living, thus pay is really 15000 SGD/month for an expat ex housing as a maximum. Anyone with knowledge?

Thanks.

Guys, there are no expat contracts aka expat benefits at SQ any more. Everybody is on a local contract.

Update

Had an (online) interview with them after applying for advertised position DEC B777 with SIA, seemed to go well upon till the point I got the chance to ask some questions. My first question was; I am not going to be seconded to Scoot or anything else than what I have applied for which is B 777 DEC SIA?.....the situation got somewhat shady at that point and reply was; ohhh we'll yes there is a chance you would be put at Scoot or 737 ops. I made it clear that's not what I applied for, nor would I accept such an offer and suggested it would be fruitless to proceed with any further selection if that was the case.

End of story and my career with SIA. 22000 TT, 17000WB, 12000 777/787...... good luck for the rest of you!

One of my friends withdrew his application for the same reason. He's flying a B787 now. By the way, what did they ask you during the online interview?

Eng. Limit during cruise, men items + follow up (drift down). ADS B/C diff, and some diff questions between B777/B787 (I flew mixed before). And that apart from your personal life journey. And how I ever dealt with a difficult F/O. That about sums it up. Relaxed atmosphere and professional guys and its not their fault the SIA add for captains 777 was not what was actually the real offer, I think they where as uncomfortable with the situation as I was.

Expat contracts finished years ago in SQ and most jobs in any sector are local terms unless you’re a very senior manager. The country is first world and not considered a hardship posting.

A job with SQ is best looked at as a long term career which will be rewarding over time, rather than a short term opportunity to cash up and move on.

Housing and private school fees are the two big financial killers, if you expect to run a car as well don’t even bother coming. It’s doable if you set your sights a bit lower housing wise, send your children to local schools which are of a good standard, and take public transport. A plus point is that a full time maid is affordable.

If you go for permanent residence you get more job security, non PR foreigners were laid off during COVID. However you are liable for central provident fund contributions which are also made by your employer, the money is your retirement fund. Citizenship is also possible giving you a top level passport. Note that any male children given PR status are liable for 2 years national service.

Guys, you want to force something that is not.
It’s not 1993 anymore,
Singapore has changed, jobs in Singapore have changed, expat lifestyle is basically non existent anymore. Same as HK.
Take this as you wish.

In regards to getting a PR for first officers and second officers you will be on a S Pass visa that means it's nearly impossible to get the PR. For Captains I am not sure.

Also the fleet is assigned as per requirements even if you are rated on the aircraft that SIA operates there is no guarantee that you will end up on that. Lots of locals doesnt want the 737 but many expats have ended up on the 777 as well. Usually in the interview they will be honest and they will try their best to answer your questions but again if you take the job come prepared for the unexpected. Never resign your job until the visa and contract is sorted cause immigration and the CAA is a not a breeze.

Singapore is very expensive infact the most in the world so be prepared for that.
