Capt commuting contracts
Hello,
Looking into commuting A320 Captain contracts.
I initially really liked the Batik Air contract but I have since been told not to go anywhere near an Indonesian carrier if I still want to have a career following the contract! Thoughts?
Peach looks ok but the money isn't fantastic and you also have to pay for your own accomodation in Japan (which is expensive) as well as tax over there.
Vietnam looks good but not too sure.
I know it all depends on whether I can get through the process and believe me, I'm not being fussy at the moment. But just want your thoughts particularly from anyone who is working for these airlines at the moment on commuting contract.

Thanks Stallone....will look at Tigerair as well.
Was more interested in thoughts on working in Indonesia being an apparent "career ending" move- first I'd heard of this, but just wanted to get some unbiased opinions.

As far as Indo being a career killer is complete tosh, all the FO I know who flew in Indo are doing very well myself included, to name a few some are in Qatar, Easyjet, Eva Air. Usually the airlines are interested about your experience there as a plus side not a negative.
But as a Captain, Vietnam should be near the top of your list.

Thanks guys- great info there!
Safelife- I'd love a China contract....but my previous airline won't sign-off on the China paperwork (me thinks they've lost too many pilots to China, so they've decided to make it bloody difficult to get anything signed by anyone). Believe me, I've tried. So gotta go somewhere else for a couple of years.
Bae- Thanks for your feedback, mate. Like I said, I was a bit taken aback when this senior person said that about Indo carriers, but as I haven't had a lot to do with Asia I just wasn't sure. Will take a closer look at Vietnam as well. Every contract obviously has it's pros and cons....
Cheers guys.

If you are talking about your previous employer being in Aus (where you seem to be) then they are legally obligated to sign what you need-otherwise it could be considered punitive and lead them down a very unpleasant path. You may have to push a bit but that's life-if you don't stand up for yourself no one else will!

I left an Aussie carrier a year and a bit ago. I am trying to go to China now but my old company won't provide me with the letters required either. There has to be some recourse here. I'm loosing about US $700 / day. I am still trying to get the paperwork and it's been a few months.
