Malaysian bans checked baggage

Malaysia Airlines temporarily bans checked baggage for flights to Europe due to 'safety, strong head winds' - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

That's one way to save money I suppose, but won't the punters be unhappy?

Travel Advisory - Temporary Limitation on Checked In Baggage Allowance for Kuala Lumpur-Europe Sector Uplifted | Malaysia Airlines

...And the policy is reversed "leaving aviation industry analysts puzzled".

Malaysia Airlines says checked-in baggage limit imposed only effective for two days, SE Asia News & Top Stories - The Straits Times

Well, it certainly is puzzling! Anyone got any inside info on what all that was REALLY about?

Dumb arses running the show!!!

They got rid of their long haul work horses, the B777s.

Launching flights with the crappy A330s.

With the strong winter headwinds, those scare busses seriously not up to mark!!!

Their SDO is a useless piece of arse licking mutt who knows not how to tell the mat salleh boss the truth about scare busses; the Malaysian public and MAS international perception problems with the t7s due the unfortunate loss of MH370 and MH 17 have nothing to do the B777 plane but geo politics.

Absolute nincompoops!

KAL, they are still using the B777 but these planes are on their last legs! A few are going to be flown and then dumped at the destination airports to be picked up by lessors and buyers.

The recent fierce westerly jetstream winds were certainly detrimental as they now avoid certain routes due to the escalation in the ME conflicts, eventhough these would have incurred lesser headwinds.

The pressure to maintain whatever freight on board instead of pax baggage must have been a big reason.

Their operations division and its bumbling SDO as rightly pointed out by you are not very savvy with using alternative flight planning methods.16 or 17 years ago, the good pilots with savvy management potential left for greener pastures, leaving the deadwood two wifey ones behind to claim the throne!

Totally depends on the version of 777 vs 330. New 330 do better than 777 200ers now.

Does it do better than the 777-200LR?

The Southern Route which took them through the Arabian Peninsular and part of Egypt certainly put them right into the screaming headwinds and longer track distance. Is it an over reaction to the MH 17 shootdown so as not to be seen anywhere near Ukraine or was it in response to having to been seen as boycotting Russian territories? Or just a show to be passing by the " holy lands"; the funny bunch in ops ( not only flt ops but the SDO's total domain ) think in equally funny ways to attract " grassroots support "! I would not make sense to us, but to them passing by the holy lands is really a super big deal!!!
