If this is a scam, then paying for own Type rating is also a scam - which became very normal these days.
If you are employed full-time by a company and you need a very specific training to operate their equipment, they have to pay for it.
Not you.
If you want to work as an independent contractor, then you should pay for it. But at least you get to make your own rules.
And it became normal because there's plenty of suckers like you willing to do and pay anything in order to sit on that big, shiny jet.
Even subsidizing their pax tickets. Like I said, they got you hook line and sinker.
