Has anyone traveled to Bangkok with passport that will expire in less the 6 months? We are using Canadian and US passport. thanks

Passports should be made valid for 5/10 years AND 6 months because with less than 6 months left on them many countries, such as Singapore, will not accept them.

Effectively we are short changed 5/10% of what we pay for a passport.

I just renewed mine its valid until 2025, 11 years. Some countries do that. It will run out of pages before
time in my case.

Some countries will issue you with a second passport.

Get a letter from your employer requesting one.

Visa on arrival requirements state passport be valid for 6 months.It becomes the liabiliyt of the carrying airline incase you are denied entry hence they would not carry you

You can get a new UK passport up to 9 months before it expires and the 9 months will be added to the expiry date.

Just got into Bangkok with passports that are valid for 4 months only. Apparently, if you stay less than 30 days with certain passport, you don't need a visa. The passport only needs to be valid for the period of your stay.

This is Tourist Visa exemption regulation copied below. However, I have never heard of this "passport only needs to be valid for the period of your stay" and do know of people being refused entry because of < 6 months validity

TOURIST VISA EXEMPTION - According to the Interior Ministerial Announcements dated 1 October B.E. 2545 (2002), 20 December B.E. 2545 (2002), 18 October B.E. 2547 (2004), 6 May B.E. 2548 (2005), and 23 June 2554 (2011), passport holders from 48 countries and 1 special administrative region - Hong Kong SAR - are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 30 days on each visit. If such foreigners enter the Kingdom at the immigration checkpoints which border neighboring countries, they will be allowed to stay for 15 days each time, except Malaysian nationals who cross the borderline from Malaysia whose granted period of stay will not exceed 30 days each time. - Please note that Tourist Visa Exemption does not apply to foreigners holding Travel Document for Aliens issued by these countries.
- Foreigners entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category must possess adequate finances for the duration of stay in Thailand (i.e., cash 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family).

I've not heard of that bit either and it is a very risky strategy going to Thailand with only a month or 2 on your passport. I had seven months left on mine and have renewed it to Jan 2025.

I think all S.E. Asian countries are pretty well the same and my brother's Thai wife was stopped from leaving BKK for a long weekend in Hanoi, Vietnam, because she only had 4 months left on her passport and she needed no advance visa. (that happened AFTER I had checked in and my bags sent on their way but that's another story.....)

Again, both of us got into Thailand with no issue. Our passports are only valid for 4 months.

If you leave Thailand for Hanoi, you will be stopped. You require a visa for Vietnam, and they require your passport to be valid for six months.

According to IATA. website, going to Vietnam, both Canadian and US passport holder requires to have six month validity on their passport. Not sure about other Nationality. You can try the IATA. website for the passport that you use.

Just to share my experience only, I know that for a fact that Thailand, Japan, South Korea, US, and Hong Kong don't require your passport to be valid for six months if you are holding either a Canadian or US passport. Some of the embassy website have incorrect info. Cheers

A bit of a long shot - but if you are already in Cambodia the Visa covers you for Thailand. Eventually most of ASEAN will join this Schengen type arrangement.

How does that work Capt. If you leave Cambodia for Thailand the Immigrasi
stamp you out and presumably pilotxxx would be a tourist entry which
is Single entry in Cambodia. I dont think Cambodia allows a PP with less than 6
months anyway either and he still needs to go into Thailand.
Just get a new Passport.

Just like Schengen I would assume, one visa, and one entry stamp and another on exit from TH. I have yet to do that as yet so grateful for any update.

The idea is that just one visa will cover visitors to all ASEAN states eventually.
