Tianjin screenings Orlando
Just wondering if anyone in here is attending the screenings for TJA in Orlando mid febraury..
If so, what agency are you going with?

There is a Tianjin Airlines thread in this forum that I strongly suggest you read through, especially pay attention to the OP and to my posts later on.
There is also a section on the various agencies but it seems there is always something bad to be said about all of them. The biggest pitfall people seem to forget is that working with an agency that operates in the USA (even if they are incorporated overseas such as in Hong Kong) has specific tax issues that may not be beneficial to you.
What aircraft are they screening for btw?

Screenings are for both A320 and E190 I think....
I have read all your posts and are really good....in regards to agencies and tax issues I am not particularly concern since I am not a US citizen...but it is always handy to find out more about them, so thanks for the tip!

Going to any "screening" outside of China is simply a huge waste of your time. To work in China, you have to meet the requirements of a Chinese ATP. A medical, done at a CAAC facility, in China. An ATP written, done on a computer at a CAAC facility, in China. An ATP check ride. Perhaps this step can be done in the US with a company instructor designated by the CAAC, but not likely.
Skip the foreign "screenings". Why would they do it? A couple of reasons. For the recruiters, they get to work from home. For the recruiter and the airline, they get to make a bunch of pilots think they actually have a job in China, when they don't, at least not yet. Not even close.
Unless you can drive from home to the US interview in a short time, you will be just wasting your time. You still don't have the job till you go to China and do the real screening.

The "screenings" or job fairs outside of China are really just the recruiters serving up a sales pitch.
I suppose if you really suck in the sim or have a bad day they will disqualify you right then but otherwise it's just an elaborate meet and greet and the "job offer" is really contingent on passing a series of tests and many if not most people don't make it through after going to China. The process is long and a PITA.
If you are flying in from another country to go to this "screening" don't bother...get a refund on your ticket and request to be flown directly to the real screening in China. I'm pretty sure they aren't paying your ticket to Orlando or your hotel....get a refund. They will pay for your trip to China.
Another secret....it is possible to contact the airline directly and bypass the recruiters. On the other hand, a recruiter is helpful so you're better off going with one as long as you don't let them sucker you into unusual recruiter specific clauses in the contract. Remember, the airline pays for the recruiter's fees, not you so it's no skin off your nose.

I understand that some agencies pay for the full thing in Orlando (air tkt and hotel) others only pay for the hotel...
On the documentation sent for the screening they are very specific on the selection process in China and that a trip to China to under take the medical, ATP and Check Ride are mandatory before getting a job offer so...I guess it is closer to travel to the USA and give it a shoot in the sim than crossing to the other side of the planet....on the other hand, a free tkt to China is not too bad either..

You're going to want to be super careful going to Tianjin Airlines. It's become extremely hostile. I've got a lot of information to share over the next few months. So far, the posts here have been really good and accurate. However, you're going to want to consider the washout rate as well: something like 1 in 20 applicants actually get all the way through training. Of these who make it through, many are gone by year 2 of the contract anyhow. If you think you are going to be reimbursed, be careful with that as well. I know of stories of guys who got left in the lurch with no refund because they did not do well in the sim. Tianjin is on the black list. Lot's of guys taking off this year for other jobs that pay less but have better conditions.

WA just screened in Brazil
From what I'm told ,They accept 10 to come to China, 3 turn up in China ... all fail
unless you are sucessful at they do not refund ticket!
