Sri Lankan 330 cracked window

It appears a Sri Lankan Airways A330 suffered a broken cockpit window shortly after take off and had to return to Colombo.

Anyone got any more info? It was in todays paper so I thought it would be on here already.

If it happened shortly after take-off would it really entail an emergency descent?

A quick WAG drawn up on the back of a fag packet tells me there's an industry wide average of 10 cracked window panes every single day. It tends to become news only if it involves a) someone famous, b) a small national airline, c) a new aircraft type or d) an onboard journalist.

Not sure about categories a) through d), but the guy quoted in the "dear old" Sun "feared for his life". He is category e) a television producer of Death In The Skies type "documentaries"
Apparently it was already broken and repaired with chewing gum and spit before departure.
No mention of schools narrowly missed...

Occurred on the first flight after a windshield change .

A little bird that hangs out in the hangar says it is yet another case of maintenance not following proper procedures
.

Another one brushed under that huge carpet !
