Airlines in Myanmar?

Is anyone familiar with airlines in Myanmar - any foreign pilots working for them?

they have a domestic airline, Myanmar Airways, is run by the government. they operate F27s and F28s. not very well maintained.

there is another domestic airline, a rather new setup, Mandalay Air, which operates ATR-72/ATR-42. a better outfit. but i think it's also own by the government.

both of these domestic airlines hire only locals.

there is another international airline, Myanmar Airways International. though it's like the sister of Myanmar Airways but it's Singaporean owned (Region Air). all the pilots are from Region Air but the cabin crew are locals. they operate A320/B734. i believe they operate to HKG, KUL, SIN and BKK.

therefore, if you are looking for a job in Myanmar, you have to contact Region Air in SIN. in fact, according to some rumours, Region Air also got the contact to supply planes and crew to Vietnam Airlines (B777).

hope this helps...SR
