Airports Authority of India Updated Website

Guys, I happen to just stumble upon the new AAI website and it has come as a pleasant surprise to note that the website has been re-designed for ease of use and supporting easier online flight plan filing too. Great going

Are you kidding?

Ease of use for online flight planning at AAI's new website?

Look more closely at the process required to become an approved user. Now required are;1. Letter from the airline/operator on the Letter Head of the company stating that the person is a bonafide employee of the company and is authorised to file the flight plan online along with the email id and telephone no. 2. Scanned copy of the DGCA Authorisation (Permit/License) viz., Non-sked Operator permit/CPL/CHPL/Handling Agent Authorisation.3. Scanned copy of the BCAS Pass issued to the person.

It used to be that telephone verification was all that was required for a user to be approved. Now it's all of the above. For many private operators it's not possible to obtain approval because they don't have / can't get the BACS pass because they don't have an approved security manual. Currently, there are 37 operators who have submitted the manual (ours over a year ago) but have not had theirs approved. Those in charge simply state that they're not approving any manuals at this time.

This is classic Indian bureaucracy at it's worst. Why not just let users register, then if one user isn't qualified or is somehow abusing the system then simply remove that user (like they do anywhere else in the world)?

There's a counter on the website showing only 1200 flight plans have been filed in the 4 or 5 months the system has been in operation. That's minsicule and it would seem that the needlessly high barriers to become a user of the system are the main reason why.
