books for reference
keith willams - general nav, instruments
oxford jeppesen - general nav, instruments, met, mass and balance, radio-aids, performance and power plant systems.
gsp's - flight planning and monitoring, radio, intruments.
ic joshi - met.
surinder singh - notes
ive given around 4 times nav-comp. slacked off the previous times during the exam time thinking "i already got a cpl dun need to study much ill pass" but that didnt work so well always got 60's..
i recommend you to study atlest 1-1 1/2 month before your exam spend 7-8 hrs each day studying the basics and getting through thoroughly..
the knowledge is the goal... dun listen to what is important and what is not... as u've seen this attempt they ask each and every kind question.. from multi-leg cp problems to theory of air density...
all the best..

The two main retailers are Sterling Book House in Mumbai and the English Book Store in Delhi.
There are currently six books available.
EBS sells locally produced versions.
Sterling Book House sells UK produced versions. These are more expensive, but they include an interactive CD ROM covering all 14 JAR ATPL subjects
There are probably other retailers who obtain the books from EBS or Sterling Book House, but I do not know who they are.
A new book covering Radio Navigation is about to go to print, so it should be available in India in a month or so.

Cleared ATPL radio aids / instrument paper today.. got 74/90. I studied from Oxford Instrumentation book and Radio aids book, did all the chapter questions and the questions from behind. Managed to clear the exam. I am going to give Nav next, what is the best way to clear the exam. Lot of people recommended that I use keith williams for instruments but I didnt have time.
I will study from Oxford again, do you guys reckon I should invest in keith williams Navigation book. I Guess keith williams would be good since he explains every answer? Is there a way I can get the PDF of keith williams nav, maybe buy it online?
The nav keith williams costs 2500 rs and the other one costs 1100 ( nav )
are both the books the same? One comes with a cd the other doesnt. What is in the cd? Is it a cbt questionnaire type of thing? The locally produced book is the same?

@keith williams
The one available for 1100 is by Himalayan Book Publications and its a fat, heavy book.
I decided against the 'original' book by you because the interactive CD was for windows based systems only. Any plans for coming out with a CD that supports MAC OS X.
Thanks.

The books include key facts for the subject area plus a detailed explanation for each question, so they are quite bulky. As an example the General Navigation book contains 710 pages.

The EBS/Himalayan versions are intended to reduce the retail price to a minimum. This means that the material quality (paper and printing) are of a lower standard than the Uk produced versions.
The Sterling Book House versions include a fully interactive CD. The current vesrion of this CD includes approximately 11000 questions plus approximately 5000 explanations.
The CD is designed to run on MS Windows with MS Office, but will also run on Apple Mac computers with a MS Windows partition and MS Office.

it was ok.. in the sense it had many easy q's and some very tuff numericals... but all i can say is be strong with the basics of the subjects and try to solve different kinds of problems from different materials.. from what i have seen in oct 2011 and jan 2012 they used to just copy paste keith williams and ic joshi but nowadays the have been using alot from gsp's and the above books... so just try to solve and read from every material you can get your hands on... i did 4 revisions before my exams covering around 18 books... that was alot... but i din want to leave any stone unturned

There are currently six books in the 1000 QA&E range, covering the following subjects.
Principles Of Flight.
Aircraft Performance.
Mass & Balance.
Aircraft General Knowledge.
Instruments.
General Navigation.
A seventh book covering Radio Navigation will be available within a month or so.
For candidates who have problems with the numerical questions, there is also an interactive CD entitled "Mastering Mathematics For DGCA Examinations" available from Sterling Book House. This provides an unlimited number of questions, together with explanations and step-by-step solutions. This enables users to keep on practicing each type of calculation until they become really proficient.
