Thai Co-Pilots Striked last week

Last Friday some 32 Co-Pilots at Thai Airways did a no show to work, with low level industrial action over stalled talks regarding who pays the tax on a recent pay rise.

It didn't work or help their cause much as the airline kept ticking along, be it many flights running late as operations were scrambling to get current crews to replace the protesting crews.

This also happened to be the start of the busiest week of the year for the carrier, the Thai Songkran New Year.....

So, what is happening in the happy land boys club of Thai??

Maybe they just wanted to be part of the water fight !!!!

I'm sure they will enjoy their long awaited vacation on the beach whilst Thai recruits fresh meat at half the cost.

The Thais can settle on their own.

Before I forget, those 32 co-pilots need visual entertainment like the one shown in Thai Parliament recently! Watch clip between 0:01~0:05.

Their salary is pretty good, but they seem to pay a rather large amount of tax/other payments, which by coincidence is rising due to the "si dang" - "red shirt" lot getting in to power again. Thaksin has influence, most unfortunately.

A lot of 777 drivers looking elsewhere.

Chai Ja,

Isn’t this case more one of the pilots being on different contracts? I may be wrong here but I recall up to about 2006/7? TG paid the income tax obligation on their salaries and post this date new starters lost this deal.

These were the only group taking the action. This is why the effects were minimal.

Not sure what you are referring to re tax/other payments rising as (so far) Ms Y hasn't changed any of the statutory payments. Cost of living of course is another matter!

Yes you're correct. Cost of living has gone up and rising, noticed 91gas price , who's to blame for that - the same guy who is trying to come back whilst having a certain law changed which will enable him to do so.

"A lot of 777 drivers looking elsewhere."
I can not blame them, They can live in the region, don't have to go to the Middle East and still double their take home pay. Cost are spiraling in Thailand, spiraling upwards. As much as the current clowns belong in a circus, I cant blame them directly for the cost of fuel, even though it has risen 3 times due to tax rises recently I believe. Can't be true, surely...

It would have been a classic pic to see mommy Y spank the naughty boys going to Parliament for a flog last week when she got back from her, charter amendments are nothing to do with me trip to China.

It makes sense why so few flights were interrupted if it was just some of the more recent recruits.

THAI quote of the week, "Some senior pilots are paid more than the executives."

Co-Pilots Take Leave

Well, as a general comment, I would hope so, you have pilots operating in a professional safe manner, (expect the incident into Melb) and you have incompetent execs running an airline down the tubes.

I caught up with a Thai friend who I meet on a training course many years ago, he is with Thai Air Asia, pleasant chap but he was adamant that it is just a storm in a tea cup. (Not his words, do they even drink tea in Thailand?) I know they drink allot of horrible whisky.

He basically told me that it is nothing more than a bunch of pre madonna's who are jealous that some get the tax paid for and they don't. They are from rich families and are used to getting what they want, not being shafted with egg on their face and THAI will give in just to make any unwanted media go away. I did enjoy reminding my friend that he is also a pre-madonna boasting how he can bribe his way out of any police problem in his Japanese imported sports car.

So this is all about a bunch of rich mummy boys jealously and loosing face.
