Korean air rishworth
Hi guys I was just wondering do anyone know a way around the "must hold university degree/diploma" for the korea/rishworth contract i am very interested but do not possess the aformentioned,

Why don't you contact some of the other agencies. I hear mixed reviews about Rishworth anyway. CCL and others are available, about 5 or 6 agencies in total.

What you expect from KAL anyway? Are you ready to get treated unfair and unequal? Have you read thru the KAL-Threads? Rishworth is also named as RISHWORSE on the peninsula. Shop with others. Be warned what you wish....

I have heard all about KAL and how they are not great etc but the simple fact is I am absoloutly desperate for work,at the moment what other agencies are providing pilots to KAL....my main problem is i just dont have this bloddy university degree....the thing i like about KAL compared to etihad QATAR etc is the fact that u can commute....

CCL told me that I can't apply for FO without a college degree.
Apparently this is needed for a Korean work visa.
I don't see this requirement for captains though.
Do you work as First Officer for KAL? How to get in without a college degree?
(In Belgium, an integrated ATPL course is considered a Bachelor degree, so I hope that with a statement of the Belgian Ministry of Education this will be acceptable for the Korean Government.)

I joined as Captain more than 2 years ago, thru CCL. I do not have a university degree or college diploma. I am ex-military, so maybe that made a difference?? (It shouldn't, but within the Korean National pilots group, the ex-military guys run the show) I cannot remember what my application stated specifically at the time, but there my be a requirement for a degree for FO's. If so, I retract my earlier comment ...
Have a look at other agencies, the app might be different.
My only other comment/question would be ... Are you sure you want to work for KAL as an FO? Have you discussed this with other colleagues at KAL? Are you feeling OK? :-)

Trying to read all the info on pprune about KAL, although I suppose that some horror stories must be exaggerated. Or is it really that bad?
No harm in going to the selections I suppose.

Stories can be that bad, better or worse. Depends on you and your attitude and some luck of the draw.
What fleet are you looking at?
Yes, it's commuting, but remember, you will NEVER get a shot at left seat here. Even some managers tell you to plan for a 2-3 year exit plan.

Currently A320 rated. So it would be for the self funded CCQ to A330.
I currently have a fixed contract for a European charter company. However, since I'm stuck in the right seat for many years due to downsizing of the fleet and uncertain future fleet plans, I like to gain a new experience.
I like to fly long haul, but the company I work for will never provide this possibility.
I don't mind the right seat for now, I just don't want the same charter operations for the coming years. So staying where I am now doesn't suit me.
I'm young and single, so the time is now to go for an abroad experience. If I don't do this now, maybe I will regret this later.
On the other hand, I don't like the self funded type rating. But the money I will earn at KAL will be a lot higher than what I earn now, so it's just a small investment that will pay off.
And I'm sure that after some years I'll want to become Captain, so KAL is not a definitive solution.

Forget Virgin Atlantic. The pay stinks compared to KAL. Not sure what your total time is, but you are single and willing to travel. Have you thought about Air Asia and the DEC on the A320? They hire F/Os as DECs and are working on giving monthly commuting contracts. They are hiring a bunch of F/Os as CAPs. You'll have a bond but heck, in a couple of years you can break it and jump to China and make 200K+/year. Middle East will upgrade you in 5 years but you are stuck living there.

ME is not an option for me. I like to be home for a few days each month.
KAL or Air Japan seem to have the best commuting contracts. But I read a lot of negative comments about both companies.

i have a good feeling that korean air will be in deep kaka with pilot recruitment. with there stupid requirements they will be left behind ! i have a friend who recently joined as DEC on the 777. and he told me they are in so bad shape to when it comes with the recruitment of pilots. not to mention korean is not exactly a place where people want to live.

So you think there is a possibility that KAL may have to drop there requirements....? I am 50 hours short of the 1000 hours total airline transport which is sickening,according to a fine gent in CCL "KAL have no problem meeting recruitment requirements therefore,has no need to reduce its requirement"

What's with needing a degree for F/o's?? Is there anyway around this? CCL say there isn't.
Has any F/o gone through an agency to Korean without degree? I find it hard to believe a degree in 'media studies' or what ever they call some of the half baked courses ( at what were poly technics not so long ago) would be of interest to anyone who is a qualified experienced airline pilot.
