Thanks for the info, I missed it last year cause I was not recent

Now I applied for it, keeping my fingers crossed and praying to the lord.

I also think this is a good chance for unemployed pilots like me with just a CPL and moreover we can proudly say we are serving our country.

Does anyone know, how long it will take for them to call us and if selected what are the following selection procedures?

Thanks for the effort dushrox!

Unfortunately the information you provided was under "How To Apply For Naviks(GD/DB)". I think that's different from 'Asst. Commandant SSC for CPL holders'. At least it was different the last time I attempted it (Feb, 2011).

Here's how the testing was done then:

1. Checking of relevant documents
2. MAT test
3. Analytical ability test (or something on those lines)
4. PPDT - Picture perception & Description Test

That concludes the PSB. Don't have a very clear idea about SSB as I didn't clear the PPDT.

Anyone with first hand info about SSB?

@ kush.... When they say they applied means they appeared for the process of selection which is "walk in".

SSb process..

1st Group discussions--two options are given by the GTO (Group task officer) and the group has to select one of it.

2nd GD- One topic given my the GTO

3rd GD- Military Planning.

One Extempo- out of four option select one topic and prepare an extempore 3 min are given to prepare and one min to speak on the spot.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Psycology Test

WAT- word association test
PPT- Picture perception test
self discription

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
INTERVIEW
The IO- Interviewing officer is the one who judges you and matches it with the GTO and Pscycology report.

Evry students report is discussed on the last day CONFERENCE where decisions are made to RECOMMEND the candidate or not.

AFter a candidate is recommended he has to undergo Medicals and after that medical board recommends the candidate.

The marks of the recommended candidates are summed up(SSB+Medical) and MERIT list is prepared.

Candidates in the merit list are called to Ezhimala Kerela for training in Naval academy.

Note- Coast Guard SSB is simpler and non exhausting then IAF, ARMY and NAVY.

Advise Please....

Hello fellow pilots, i need some advise from you guys here.
i just appeared for Asst Comdt CPL entry in coast guard( Mumbai Centre) and i am glad that i cleared all their rounds of PSB and now left with FSB to be held in Noida (hopefully Aug-Sept 2011).
Q 1. So is there anybody here who has any fair idea about the topics or a procedure of FSB? i mean what kind of rounds are gonna be there ?
Q 2. if i got through the FSB and get the job offer from them, is it worth to join indian coast guard ? do u guys have any idea about their flying hours per month and promotional schemes? the bond they are declaring is for 8 years, is it rigid from their side or they can extend it up to 14 yrs even if u want to leave?
In short, any advise whether i should join it or not,, would be highly appreciated.
Kush

@ kUsh

Previous post of mine consist of all answers to your queries.

I had mentioned there that they conduct Psycological tests. Infact, in all there assessments they will check OLQs(Officer like quailities) and this includes thorough psychological profiling.

If you have this attitude of thinking that "SHOULD YOU JOIN INDIAN COAST GUARD or not" then let me tell you that these guys are not gonna hire you coz even if they need pilots, they will only hire those who wants to serve their country more then trying to build time.

Now i do not mean that you should be Sunny deol types. I just mean this mentality of yours will come out during some stage that you are not sure about joining them or not. Hence they will NOT recommend you.

Just go there with the mind set that you want to be a part of a Defense Institution which gives their officers a good life and a career and in return they want FOCUSSED AND COMMITTED OFFICERS.

Personally I feel if you get any opportunity you must join any defense institution. ITS WORTH IT. Just depends on your personal desires.

BTW GOOD LUCK with your FSB.
Hope to see you in delhi.

yeah
its according to the merit list.
top ones get fixed wings I guess.
I personally know of one guy who is flying choppers with them.even though he had a fixed wing CPL.No big worries in that matter.100 hours in chopper to get your CHPL in civil,so in CG it shouldn't be a big deal too for them

The criteria for allotment on fixed/rotary wing is purely based on merit. According to my friend who got into rotary, they're supposed to fly fixed wings after 6 years. So in a way its good. You get to fly choppers for 6 years and later on Dorniers for 2 years.

So when and on what bases do they make the merit list which decides that one will go on the chopper or on a dornier !!!!

Its all based on your performance from day 1, starting from the marks you obtained for PSB right upto FSB.

oo is it so??actually what i have heared is, after u get selected they conduct your ground training which contains aviation subjects(Nav, Met, Tech) and then they take an exam of those subject, now after the result of that exam they make the merit deciding who are to go on dornier and who are to be put on chopper?
