Lion Air: Two runway excursions in two days at the same airport
When I first saw this on the AvHerald Website I originally thought, the editors accidently listed the same incident twice. But no, Lion Air did actually have two runway excursions on the same runway at the same airport within 24 hours. Thye knee jerk reaction of the Indonesian DGCA is to ban Lion Air from operating from that airport until further investigation.
If I remember correctly, this follows another runway excursion upon landing at Pontianak last November 2010. This follows a series of such incidents in 2004,2005 and 2006 ... one resulting in fatalities.

A Lionair Boeing 737-900, registration PK-LHH performing flight JT-295 from Medan to Pekanbaru (Indonesia) with 218 people on board, overran Pekanbaru's runway 36 and came to a stop with all gear about 25 meters off the paved surface while landing in Pekanbaru around 17:00L (10:00Z) in drizzle. The passengers disembarked onto soft ground via mobile stairs.
This was the second runway excursion of a Lionair Boeing 737-900 at Pekanbaru within 20 hours, also see Incident: Lionair B739 at Pekanbaru on Feb 14th 2011, runway excursion on landing.
As result of the overrun the runway was closed for about 7 hours, then the runway was re-opened with restrictions. The airplane is expected to be moved in the morning of Feb 16th.
Indonesia's Ministry of Communication said, that "218 passengers including crew" were on board of the aircraft that overran the end of the runway safety area by about 20 meters. At the time of the landing winds were calm, visibility was 5000 meters (16400 feet).
Indonesia's Ministry of Transport have banned Boeing 737-900s from operating into Pekanbaru when the runway is wet, pending further investigation results.

guys look at a bigger picture.
dont just always put the blame squarely on the airline particularly the flight crew.
Nobody wants an incident to happen.
the goverment of indonesia really needs to get their act together to seriously upgrade the airport facilities all over the country which has been long overdue in order to keep up the air travel demands for the past few years.
fyi runway in PKU has only 2200 x 30 meters and adds that with heavy down pours..not an easy place for any pilots in the world to land the plane the size of 739.
in my honest opinion, the authority in indonesia is partly to blame for this incident.

Semarang is a case in point with only 1850 meters
i don't know where you got the above figure from, but the last data i checked showed WARS has a rwy length of 2680 meters.

So you're suggesting the DGCA is to blame for not making the runway long or wide enough? You want the DGCA to hold the pilots hand whilst he/she makes the approach and landing too?
