Flight Simulation
Flight Simulator 2004 and Flight Simulator X as of now.
You can opt for Flight Simulator X: Pros: More Airports, better graphics, detailed aircrafts, flying missions, more aircrafts etc. Cons: Very bad frame rate and not that much third party softwares for FSX to enhance the experience as compared to FS2004.
Please go through these links if you want to have realistic flying experience and virtual ATC support.

i would say FSX with PMDG planes downloaded from precisionmanuals website. has an almost fully functioning FMC on its 747 package. have a friend who flies 744s and he was quite impressed with it.

Xplane and MSFS (all recent versions) are mildly useful for the most basic skills, but incomplete from a training/learning point of view at best and misleading at worst. You would be far better off ditiching those and baggage that comes with them and get a copy of RANT Oddsoft Ltd or if you really want to practice your scan as well as interpreting the instruments the ELITE Simulation Solutions - The PCATD Leader is the best available IMHO.
