Question DGCA conversion. Please help guys! whats is called valid foreign medical?

Hey all friends!
I am another soul aspiring to be a pilot. I am doing my conversion exams this November 2010. I need some light on the conversion flow chart mentioned by the DGCA.

1) One of the step says that we need to submit "valid class one foreign medical".

I did have my class one medical when i got my license. but now it is lapsed. So do i need to do the class one medical test again in Australia and submit a current class one foreign medical to DGCA or I can submit the same lapsed medical i had when i got my license?

2) Also please tell me about the signal reception test that is to be undertaken in the flying school. In Australia, we didn't have any such thing for cpl.

3) Please tell me how to obtain the verification letter from the tenth and twelfth standard boards. Do the boards give it to us or what really is it?

I greatly appreciate any help given.
Thank you!

Hi simplypilot

1. Yes, you will probably have to do the Australian medical again. However, do check up with DGCA , the flowchart on DGCA's website is around 3 years old....things may have changed and they may allow you to submit your lapsed medical. (do you have to go back to Australia to renew it ? I believe you can renew it in India)

2. You'll have to get a certificate from your flying school in Australia stating that you have passed a signal reception test with 8 words per minute.

3. You have to apply to your board of education for this. The procedure is different for each board of education.

all the best !

Hey Sierra November!

Thank you for providing me some light. However though i have some further doubts based on the same.

1) As you has told me that i could check with DGCA regarding medicals, please tell me which is the best route to contact them. I tried their phone numbers in vain. Maybe i didn't call the right department. is it better to go in person?

2) As you said, Australian Medical can be done here as well which i actually didn't realize.

3) It's correct that every board has a different procedure. Is there some procedure which is common? What was the procedure that your board followed? As soon after the exams i am going to the board to ask for it. but i am worried if they won't give it to me and if they send it to DGCA, will there be anyone responsible who will collect them and store them...

Thank you for your time.

^ In my case I begged the board (Tamil nadu state) to give it to me personally. After a lot of arguments they finally agreed to post it to me direct. I don't trust the DGCA to actually have a record if they directly posted it to them.

Hi simlplypilot,

You could try calling the deputy director of training and licencing, if that doesn't work then going in person is the only option.

To get my marksheets verified, I had to submit a written application, my marksheets in original along with copies, and a fee. It took them around 3 weeks to issue the verification letter. It would be better to collect it from your board and then submit it to DGCA, or chances are they'll say they haven't received it.

"...whats is called valid foreign medical?"

No ****!

These people want all the expats flying on FATA to sit the Indian medical examination.

What medical do they recognise apart from the Indian medical??

Rather contradictory don't you think?

ok heres the answer......

buddy your class I CASA medical needs to be valid on the day of approval of your file.DGCA will not approve your file until your CASA medic is current on that day when the file is presented for aproval.check ut the casa website there are quite a few CASA class I medics here in india. You can get your old medical stamped in that space given on it and submit that. I belive that stamp is valid for 30 days or some thing. check it up with the doc.

I did it too...

Hi simplypilot,

Have you been able to find any info on the signal reception test? I'm in the process of converting my CASA CPL as well and have no clue what a signal reception test refers to. Someone said I don't have to worry about it since I'm eligible for a converted RTR (I think its called RTR restricted). But haven't been able to get any form of confirmation on that.

Query 1.

You need to have a valid medical certificate when you apply for conversion. In case u don't file a valid medical certificate they will give u a objection letter.

Below is the link which gives the list of medical centers in India where u can get CASA medical done...
Civil Aviation Safety Authority - Search for a medical examiner

Query 2

Below is the format of the Signal Reception Test Report. Get it signed and stamped from your CFI on ur schools letter head

SIGNAL RECEPTION TEST REPORT

This is to certify that xxxxxxxxxxxx has been checked by the under signed for Morse Code Signal Reception (6-8 words/min) competency and found satisfactory for the issuance of Instrument Rating Commercial Pilot’s License by the Director General of Civil Aviation, India.

Comments: This report has been issued at request as required by the Director General of Civil Aviation for the conversion of FAA license.

Date:

Chief Flight Instructor
xxxxxx Flying School.

Query 3

In case you did your X and XII from CBSE you don't need to submit any verification.
Verification is for those who have appeared from state boards.

All u need to do is write an application to the head of ur board to issue the verification letter and send it to DGCA. All u need to submit to DGCA is the reciept and the attested copy of the letter u submitted to ur board. Rest u don't have to worry abt anything. The board itself wil send the letter to DGCA.

@ Sakshi & superdunkaroos

I'll be honest... I was told that candidates who have done X and XII from CBSE do not need to submit these certificates but i didn't take a chance....

Went to CBSE Preet Vihar in Delhi..... paid them the required fee.... attached the receipt with a letter saying i've paid the fee and the board will send the letter directly to DGCA.. and submitted it with my documents....

I guess its better to leave no stone unturned especially after having come this far...no two ways about it..verification is required!
Thanks for reinforcing that....it helps..

I also did the same thing .

Went to preet vihar CBSE office and submitted a written request along with copies of my certificates and a printout of the DGCA requirement .

Make sure you have a copy of the written request also and get a received stamp on the copy .

Also you have to go to your respective CBSE regional center . Mine was delhi and hence I went there . One of my friends did his 10th and 12th at two different centres and had to go to both the different centres

Make sure you specify the address clearly in the written application ( have it typed preferably rather than written )

They sent me the verification letter by speed post two weeks after i submitted it

Hope this helps
