MAS cabin crew grossly underpaid?

The following is a letter from the MAS flight attendant's association :

By The Executive Council of MAS Flight Attendants Association (MAFAA)

Dear Raja Azura,

The association is obligated to raise the matter of our Flight Attendants' present salary scale which is becoming a great concern. We believe you are now very much aware of the issues shared with you by many crew members. Many MAS crew members today are desperately in need of extra income because the company no longer pays sufficient salaries to their crew. Although the company has provided some avenues to earning extra such as via flight allowances and deductible bonuses, these are insufficient to cover the high cost of living today. The crew has to resort to other ways to earn an income to support their living and some have become part time salesmen/women while working with the company.

D fleet crews get about rm 1100 basic and take home 2000 due to lots of turn- arounds, so, even if they dont live beyond their means, 2k isnt enough. even teacher's salary is more!

This is absolutely so not true! I left MAS about a dozen years ago. Even then, most of my crew were taking home 3-5K. The most junior galley steward was hitting roughly 3K. Now this was on the 744. I doubt even the 734 would have been much less.

Sorry mate,not buyin that gag!

I am now with an airline where ex-MAS cabin crew have left a week after joining.

Reason:Low salary!

it is true, for at least till end of last year. just ask how many TURNAROUND flights they do each months, and get paid about rm40 for breakfast? or rm70 for dinner then go for the split duties which the allowance are lesser! ( and taking and not accounted2 calendar days) i have talked to some LS and they complained that they cant afford to take leave or report sick as rm2500 isnt enough to feed their families.

maybe things are improving with 738 coming with HND, ICN and PER layovers. Hopefully

-Massenger -obviously u were talking about widebody crew, yes they are still making 4k to 6k per month,

Don't know about teacher's salary, but many have to take second job ( much more lucrative ) giving tuition or selling stuff via Avon, Cosway, Amway, etc.

An MAS IFS garner about RM5.5k and meal allowance of about RM3K, totalling about RM8.5k gross per month. Good money, huh, for an inflight sleeper?!
