Difficicult DGCA exam questions

I am in the process of producing an interactive CD ROM covering the many different kinds of calculations that are used in the Indian DGCA ATPL and CPL examinations. It will include an unlimited number of practice questions, plus step by step solutions for each question.

I am particularly interested in those questions that are significantly more difficult than those used in JAR examinations.

If you have taken these examinations recently, or are preparing to take them, and have seen questions that really bug you, please let me have them, either in this thread or by a PM.

More difficult than JAR examinations??? .. I dunno if my post might help as I haven't given JAR examinations..

Based on what I faced i.e. last year april, if you are looking specifically for the numericals for Cpl syllabus, these questions were in the papers.
1. CP and PNR questions (single leg, multi leg, emergencies..etc)
2. Plotting the bearing for Mercator Charts and Lamberts Conical Conformal charts.
3. Relative motion.
4.Chart scale. (for eg. scale at 30 N is 1:100000 what will be the scale at 60S)
5. questions based on navigation- ( sp. NDB, VOR, ILS, MLS, RADAR, AWR, SSR, Radio Altimeter etc)
6. Questions on Instruments ( pitot-static and gyroscopic)

* i faced the problem on the PNR, lots of small calculations sp. for multi leg.

hope it helps.....

Yeah. I second that, gigablade. Big fan of yours, Keith ! I bought the book in Jan 2011 for the exam in February. I solved all the questions which seem to be DGCA favourites as well. Luckily, I came across 10-12 similar questions for the exam...and I passed. Great job, Keith. Now with a revamp in the exam system and syllabus expected, we just don't know where the questions will be from.

The new CD, which includes the more difficult types of calculations is now in the shop.

You should be able to get it from Sterling Book House in Mumbai, but if you have problems there, you should try the following websites pooleys.co.uk or transair.co.uk You can find full detail of the product on these website.

The new CD is entitled MASTERING MATHEMATICS FOR ATPL.

I will try posting a few questions I can think of. The CP-PNR numericals, INS/IRS, Chart projections theoretical questions were taken straight from your book though.

Hi Keith,

Many many moons ago we worked together at NAC. I took my Indian ATPL exams in April 2006 and I still have all the sample question papers plus my notes. Unfortunately everything is in Delhi and I am currently based in Ho Chi Minh City. I will be travelling to India soon so if you PM me your address I can ship you sample papers, or better, drop me an email, I will have the papers scanned and email you a soft copy.

Congratulations for the new CD!!
