I spent a week running around shenzhen last time I was in China. It is a rapidly expanding city and there are a lot of things to do. The best part of the city is that it's only a 2 hour trip to Hong Kong (probably only a few miles but with all the customs and what not it takes a while).

Make sure you bring a respirator if you go out, every time I've flown in (3-4 times each month this year) the sky has been yellow with pollution, vis about 5000m and the taste of something nasty very present in the air. Not the healthiest place to be.
