B.Sc. Aviation Correspondence?
As I took up a CPL course right after my 12th, I'm trying to make best use of the present aviation scenario and get a degree in something aviation related. Can these courses be done through correspondence? Preferably a B.Sc.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Yes...University Of petroleum and Energy Studies(UPES) located in dehradun offers such a course..
Lateral Entry - B. Sc. | CAS
I don't know how valuable it is because this industry requires professional courses like AME, flight dispatcher, pilot, ATC , etc.
The price of this correspondence course is also very high( 2 lakh rupees!!!)
if a pilot is medically unfit for some reason in the future, i don't see how this course will be helpful.
i was planning to do the same but am holding off until January 2011 when they will take the next batch to think about it.
A few colleges in Mumbai also offer such a course.
it would be great if someone could shed some more light on this.
besides, the present aviation senario is offering a lot of opportunities( Indigo and Jet). The best use would be to study for them as well.

Thanks a lot for the lead anyway!
Again as I'm partly Mumbai-based, could someone suggest a similar course from an institute in Mumbai?
Thanks

I am enrolled in this course at UPES since July '09.Yes it's true that this course alone will not help you in future if in case you become medically unfit (i hope it never happens) . But this can surely help you in getting an admission in a MBA course like Aviation Management (offered by the same university) which will surely boost your career. The fee is surely on a higher side, but all the other colleges are charging almost the same thing. I know a college in Mumbai which charges 1.5 lacs but the course duration is 3 years, whereas its 1.5 years in UPES.You can refer to this link for more information.

mumbai university offers a Bsc Aviation degree. It is a regular course althouugh attendance relaxation is given to "working pilots ".
About 5-6 colleges offer this course in Mumbai. You could still try getting admission into the 1st year (although its a little late now)..
1. IAAS Andheri IAAS
2.Thakur college Kandivali East
3.Patkar college Goregaon west http://www.patkarvardecollege.edu.in..._admission.pdf
there are 2-3 more colleges bt i dont knw their names..theres one in kurla also.
Oh ,and the fees is roughly abt Rs 60000 per annum..its a 3 year course..

@capt planet
Thank you so much. The info was great.
Also, you mentioned there was relaxed attendance for "working pilots". Is there anyway to get the same relaxed attendance if your not working? anyway maybe to make them 'believe' im working?

Yeah, I got myself enrolled in the dibrugarh university course, it pretty good, I got my books, all related to what we have studied before for indian exams, so it should not be a problem. just some extra books related to accounts, not too difficult tho!
The course fee is quite reasonable and you give the exams after a year, next year is a project, so virtually you are getting a degree after first year exams.
Its 2 years and then you can get into MBA where ever you want.

Griffin aviation, in gurgaon organises the whole thing
they conduct exams and pass on all the books, they are like the face for dibrugarh university.
but in the end, you're gonna get a degree from the uni.
they just smooth down the process. and it is easy to contact em than the university in assam!

God forbid, if at all we don't get into any airline, how is this course going to help? Won't you rather do B.Com or BA which might give you a better chance to get employed else where too? Just Curious, thanks

They have denied me admission saying that I am not eligible for the course since I do not have a CPL. Is there anyone at griffin whom I can speak to and discuss the same?? Please reply.
Thanks.
