Advice on flying GA in Singapore / Malaysia

Guys,

I have the possibility of working out in Singapore for my current company. I have a JAA (UK) CPL ME IR and really just want to have the option of doing some GA light aircraft flying while out there.

I have started researching the Malaysian DCA to see if they will allow a validation for my UK CPL (with SE rating of course) to fly. It seems pretty vague and I have been told that they may issue a 6 month validation at best. Why is GA flying in Malaysia so restricted?

As for Singapore, could anyone point me in the right direction? Is it going to cost the earth to rent a C150/172 (or similar) and fly a bit out there?

I would imagine Malaysia would be cheaper. A place in Johor was quoting RM350 for a C150 and RM530 for a Warrior.

Any advice would be great.
