Vietnam Airlines

I'm a ATR72 200/500 F.O. working for a European carrier.
I've set my heart on going to work for Vietnam airlines. I saw their adverts with Rishworth, Parc and DPI at the start of this year but held off. Since then I applied through them all but have got the same reply from them all in that they are not screening for F.O.'s at this time and I'm wondering whether my current employer has put the knife in somewhere as I said that it was O.K. to contact straight away.

If anyone has the time could I ask?...
1: Is VN screening for F.O.'s at this time?
2: Parc, Rishworth or DPI?
3: I've read that the locals can be "hard to deal with" elsewhere on PPRUNE but most other contacts have said that they think they're brilliant. Can anyone elaborate on the pitfalls a Westerner may fall into?
4: Given that I and most of my colleagues who want to apply have enough hours for a command ( more than enough in most cases ) what are they like for movement to the LHS or to a better aircraft?
5: I've heard that day to day life is great with regards to accomodation costs, food etc. but have read that the banks can take a sizeable cut to convert your US$ and that living in a smoggy South East Asian city can be daunting. Any comments, experiences?
Yes. I have seen the advert for Indonnesia but for the moment Vietnam is for me unless someone can convince me otherwise.
Thanks for all your help in advance and I'll see that this gets to my beleagured colleagues too!

1. Yes
2. Rishworth and DPI
3. If you keep in mind that you aren't at your old airline, they do things different here, not much harder than that.
4.Possible, no guarantees.
5.Your salary arrives to your account in USD, if you withdraw USD from your account, you will pay a very small fee since all accounts are really VND. It is a very crowded and noisy city, but the people are warm and friendly, lots to do!

I hear that Parc got tough when VN cut their fee. Rishworth I heard forced a pay cut to the Pilots and DPI took it on the chin themselves.
That's what I heard anyway.

DPI came in an undercut everybody else. Lower pay. No medical benifits.

Parc took the cut on the chin.

Rishworth passed the cut on to the pilots, breaching their current contract.

DPI DOES treat their pilots well. Parc does that and stands up for their contract.

RIshworth? Scumbags and criminals.

#1 Parc
#4 DPI
#1,999,999 Rishworth

I am with Parc now, and very happy for it.

Avoid Rishworth. Absolute scum.

Ah, another DPI expert. I suggest that anyone considering going to work for DPI to first contact someone here that actually works for DPI - to get the real story. Probe, how bout sticking to the facts.

Thanks all!
I'm having trouble getting tested by VN. I'm told either that I have not been selected or that they are not recruiting. With 2,500 hrs on type I'm sure I could offer them something!
Does anyone have an email, name or snail mail of someone I could send my c.v. to there at VN so that they at least could say to one of these agencies to which I have applied that I'm at least worth a look....which I'm sure I am.

It sounded like Probe was sticking to the facts but it is a rumour network....DL you dont work for Rishworth do you and I dont just mean you are only a regular line contract pilot?? Reading the other forum on VN you seem to stand up for them alot. Dont get me wrong if you have just had good experiences with them...great, but if you 'work' for them then thats a different matter. As you say the real story please.

DPI DOES treat their pilots well
I work closely with new arrivals, I have had entire classes approach me about switching contractors from DPI to anyone else.

Probe has not ever worked for DPI and has apparently not spoken to pilots that are currently in their employ, I have and it's not a pretty picture.

I don't work for DPI and will not comment any further, hopefully some DPI pilots can contribute.

I don't need to embellish the facts to make RAL the clear choice at this point in time, do your homework, don't wait to uncover the truth until after you have already signed a contract.

Good luck, D.L.

Hi Dream Land, thanks for replying but my question was....do you work for Rishworth? All I have read is...Rishworth this, Rishworth that. You say you wont comment any further. I am just trying to understand if you are trying to protect Rishworth because, you like them or they are paying you extra to protect them. If you are, then just be up front so pilots who now have a choice of contract company before they sign to use them and be stuck with them unless they resign and come back after a set time, can be sure where to go or not. It sounds like you are the only one who defends them.
Probe certainly sounds like he had a very bad experience with Rishworth as just about every one of his posts are attacking them. The contract companies have to realise that they can not just screw over their pilots. Is it true that they just cut the pays of their pilots...that's not cool man! He is with PARC now and sounds happy although he is in another country. Is this right.
I am not trying piss you off, I just want a straight reply so I can make the right choice. And by the sounds of it PARC is where I would want to go because they dont just change the contract to suit them and they are the ones that stand up for their pilots. This is why we contribute to this website.
Happy Landings
Y

youwantmetodowhat, follow the threads a bit closer, there are several out there that have tried to trash RAL for whatever reason, I have no reason to stand up for any agency just because I am on contract with them, what I am not taking is the outright lies that some of these people are putting out, did you read the part where a whole DPI class approached me about changing contractors?

Ideally, people should give you guys all the facts, if you look at some of the threads here, people throw this trash out and give no details or wrong information, I enjoy challenging those who are putting out the wrong information, not standing up for any cause, and if you will look, I am not steering anyone over to Rishworth.

Erm? Contractors aside. Could anyone give me an email, snail mail etc. of someone at VN under whose nose I could throw my c.v. 'cos I'm getting knowhere fast at the moment. May be they then could instruct the contractor to call me for assessment?
