How will this affect the manpower in SIA if so?

Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) today released details about its fleet renewal programme, announcing an agreement to lease six Boeing 777-200ER aircraft from Singapore Airlines (SIA). RBA will be utilising the 777-200ER aircraft to replace its current Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

Details about the lease agreement were revealed during a signing ceremony held at Royal Brunei Airlines Recreation Club on Tuesday, 11th May 2010. Royal Brunei Airlines was represented by Chief Executive Officer Mr Robert Yang, while Singapore Airlines was represented by Chief Executive Officer, Mr Chew Choon Seng. Present to witness the signing ceremony was RBA Chairman, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, members of RBA`s Board of Directors and Senior Management and a delegation from Singapore Airlines.

Introducing the Boeing 777-200ER into Royal Brunei Airlines` fleet is part of the airlines` company plan to renew its fleet and expand its operations. In addition to a higher passenger and cargo capacity than the 767s, the 777s improved product will enhance RBA`s ability to grow its revenue base. Commenting on the agreement, Robert Yang said, "The support that Royal Brunei Airlines received from Singapore Airlines brought this partnership beyond a pure lease. Under the lease terms, selected support programmes provided by Original Equipment Manufacturers to SIA are also provided to RBA to cover the aircraft engines, auxiliary power unit and other selected components."

The first aircraft is set to arrive on 26 May 2010 while the next five aircraft will arrive between June and September 2010.

Each 777-200ER aircraft will seat 30 Business Class and 255 Economy Class passengers. Both cabins will be equipped with RBA`s SkyShow In-flight Entertainment system with personal screens for each passenger. The entertainment options will include video and audio on demand, and a selection of video games.

The first flight of Royal Brunei Airlines` first 777-200ER will be to London via Dubai during the 3rd week of June 2010.

If the B777-200's being leased to RBA are the ones I think they are the a/c are 12 and 13 years old. Hardly a fleet renewal program.

As per 13MAY10 GDS timetable display, Royal Brunei is bringing forward the launch date of its Boeing 777 service by 3-4 days. Boeing 777 service entry dates as follows:

The a/c are allegedly about 9 years old and since they are replacing 767s at the thick end of 20 years of age, the fleet average age will be halved at a stroke!

The ex SIA Boeing 777 are around 12 to 13 yr old. SIA took elivery of its first 777 in 1997.It was named as jubilee . Singapore Airlines is phasing out the Boeing 777-200 Fleet slowly with Airbus A330-300. I am not suprised as SIA has a very young fleet. I expect the 777-200 series to leave the fleet completly in another year or two. The Airbus A330 will be replacement for a few years. Ultimately The Airbus A350WXB and Boeing 787-9 will take over for long term.

Aren't the planes about 9 years old? The planes that BI are leasing were the 9V-SV* series and the oldest was delivered in July 2001.

Will this 'lease out' of the 10 772's effect manpower(tech crew) at all.Or will the routes be sufficiently covered by the 330's thereby keeping the total FDC requirment constant.Just wondering.
And when is the first 787 expected to be delivered...ANA,AI and then...?

Couple of tails in RBA colours visible in the SQ maintenance area, look like T7s.

SQ like to keep a young fleet, doing little heavy maintenance on the aircraft and turning them over fairly quickly. Tax laws in Singapore favour this.
