HELP! Deciding whether to study in home country or in US?

Im a filipino citizen. I have applied with PAL last year and has been currently waiting for almost a year now for their invitation for the intial interview, but still none so far. Tentatively they are claiming that initial interviews and exams will start in the 4th quarter of this year. I am getting a bit impatient of all the waiting. I am currently turning 23 this year. There are a couple of flying schools that I am looking at, here in the Philippines namely; Omni, Airlink and Clark Aviation. Also, there are a couple schools abroad that I am looking forward to namely;Phoenix East Aviation, Paris Air and Delta. Based from your experience and your colleagues what are the advantages and disadvantages of doing flight training here in the Philippines and vice versa in terms of job availability upon graduation, cost, duration, quality, etc. Also, can you guys help me in choosing the best school here in the Philippines and abroad. Thanks.

Do your homework!

Check on each schools on which are best for you and meets your criteria. You can get your licenses without spending too much.

Good luck! We're on the same level my friend.. Choosing the path to take. I'm going to start soon here.

Well, Omni maintains a good reputation in flight training here in the Philippines. I might train either in Omni or Clark Av from PPL to CPL/IR. Why don't you try looking into smaller schools in the US or what they call FBOs? Some people do their ratings much cheaper than going in a so-called flight academies. What are your career goals? Wanna work as a flight instructor also?

Some strongly say that it's not all about school but it's all about the instructor. And I agree with that. A big named school can't deliver without quality instructors.

Good luck to us!

aviatour is closed for another 2 months following a crash. once upon a time it was the best school in Philippines.
Omni is great. but very expensive, it is better to choose abroad rather than choosing Omni, the total cost sums up nearly same.

I am working in FlyFast, based in Manila and Subic. It is only a very reputed flying school and very cheap course fees is maintained here. we have got students from many countries. You can give a try here.

Please avoid any other school in Philippines except flyfast, omni, and aviatour.

salamat.

There are other options you can avail yourself of. Croatia, Austrailia, and Southern Spain.

Consider living expenses too.

You can google flight schools too.

Good luck.

Piece of friendly advice.

Whatever you do, don't go to Clark Aviation!!!

Just look at their past and present work ethics.....

Omni and Aviatours have a good reputation for their training. The problem with these schools is that they have too much students they can handle. If you choose them, be aware that your training might take quite a long time.

If you visit them, ask the students what's their flight time and how long it took them to reach it.

It's kind of important because faster you finish, sooner you can apply for a job... Longer it takes, more monthly expenses you'll have to shoulder.

Aviatours is grounded for the moment.

If I were you, I'd look in smaller school that have a good "plane- instructor - student" ratio.

I'd suggest Aeronavigation Academy Int. (AAI) in Bacolod because of their facilities and the use of Bacolod Airport that has full navigational equipment. Also, the students can enjoy a variety of destinations within the Visayas. You can expect finishing CPL with IR within a year.

Also Leading Edge in La Union has a good reputation.

In Manila, I'd suggest Manila Aero Club because they can expedite your training.

Hope this helped,

Now, between studying in the Philippines and abroad.

I see one big advantage in studying in the Philippines if you plan to work for a local airline: networking.

Your chances of getting hired is greater if you have friends working in airlines. There's no better way doing so by studying in a Filipino school.

Most probably your flight instructor or any of your schoolmates will be hired by an airline. If you did well during your training, they might be able to help you getting in too.
