Recency

I'm an FAA CPL holder and returned to India after completing my course last july. since then, i have passed the DGCA conversion exams and the RTR exam. my obstacle now is the required 15(or so) hours for recency. After speaking to a few Indian Flight Instructors, i feel these hours can be flown in India itself(if i am wrong, please do correct me). my problem now is i need to fly these hours on the same planes i flew in the US(and again, please correct me if i'm wrong), namely C-172, PA-28 and above all the BE-76. do any of you know of any flight school/flying club in India that has a Duchess on their fleet? all inputs are welcome.

As far as I know .. there is a Duchess with the Bihar government but that aint in a flying condition so for you to do your recency on a Duchess you will have to go back to the US. Sucks but true

To answer that question, I am an indian flight instructor trained from embry riddle and have my cfi, cfii, and MEI and I have flown cessna 172S and SP with G1000 experience (250hrs). I currently work ad a flight instructor in daytona beach,FL and also have flown BE-76. Our school does have a couple of well maintained BE-76. if you need recency, you can come on the tourist visa and get your recency done. The BE-76 will cost you around $186 per hour and cessna $114 for round dial or $130 for cessna G1000. Instructor rates are 28 an hour.

P.M me for if you need recency. I will get you done in one week. And yes a couple of other students have done their recency here and certified for dgca paperwork.

I am also from bangalore btw.

I was born in Bihar. Their duchess is absolute junk.

Nikhil, The requirement is 15 hours for recency. This involves 2 hours on the Duchess for renewing the 120 NM x-country. The other 13 hours are on the C152/C172 to renew your SE x-countries.

Within 5 years
1. total -200Hrs, 2. as PIC-100 Hrs, 3. as PIC cross-country -20Hrs (encl. list of
cross-country sorties separately)
4. one 300NM cross-country with 2 full stop landings
5. Instrument time - 10Hrs (atleast 5 hrs on aircraft is must)
Within 6 months
1. as PIC-15Hrs,
2. PIC by Night - 5 Hrs (with atleast 10 take off & 10 landings)
3. General flying test by day with three solo take off and landings each
4. general flying test Night with three solo take off and landings each
5. 250 NM cross-country test by day with one full stop landing at other aerodrome
6. 120 NM X-country test by night (returning to point of dep. without landing)
7. signal reception test report ( eight word per minute)
NOTE 1. : For IR issue with CPL, submit following documents:
1. as PIC-100Hr,
2. as solo cross-country-50 Hr (encl. list of cross-country sorties separately)
3. Instrument time 40 Hrs (actual on aircraft 20 hrs or more+ simulated 20 hrs or
less)
Within 6 months
1. instrument time on actual aircraft - 5Hr,
2. IR test report with two approaches on aircraft for which endorsement on license
is requested.
NOTE 2: For Multi endorsement on CPL:
1. Record of ground training and pass result of technical exam
2. Statement indicating at least 10 hrs of training on multi engine aircraft for which
endorsement is requested (including test/ check),
Within 6 months
1. General flying test by day with three solo take off and landings each
2. General flying test Night with three solo take off and landings each
3. IR test report with two approaches on aircraft for which multi -endorsement on
license is requested. (for Multi –IR only)

Which means

If you need to have your CPL endorsed on a Multi-Engine IR Rated, you need to

1. General Flying test day - Cessna and BE- 76 (3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop)
2. General Flying Test night - Cessna and BE -76 (3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop)
3. PIC By Night - 5 hours ( 10 T/0 and Landings to a full stop )

So what can be done is do 10 T/0 Landings to a full stop at night in the Cessna which should take 1.5 hrs and the same 10 T/O landings to a full stop at night in a BE- 76 which should take 1.5 hrs. That completes your 3 hours Night PIC.

4. 120 NM X-Country at Night without landing at the destination. Total = 120 NM.

The remaining 2 hrs left from your landings is done in this Cross Country.

That Completes your 5.0 PIC at night and your General Flying Test by Night

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. 250 NM X-Country total distance during day with one full stop landing at aerodrome in the Multi- Engine to have your CPL issued on Multi Engine. If you want Single CPL Issued then you fly the cross country in a single engine.

That covers your cross country both by night above and the day.

6. Signal Reception test is a piece of cake. No cost involved. Just a minute of printing.

7. General Flying Test by day - 3 Solo Take off and landings (PIC) to a full stop in the Be-76 for CPL issued on Multi Engine or same on a single engine for CPL issued on Single Engine Cessna - 172

8. Now you need an IR on your Multi Engine endorsed right -

Instrument time on actual aircraft - 5 hrs and 2 approaches (For Multi IR only) or if you want single engine CPL-IR then you do the so above in a Cessna 172.

That completes your 15 hour PIC requirement.

Total cost of Recency is 3200 with housing. Time frame - 3-5 days only.

BE -76 ($198 with tax) an hour
C-172 - ($138 with tax) an hour

Instruction Rate: $20 an hour

Flying in a Duchess for 10 hours will come to $1980 ~ $2000
Flying in a Cessna 172 G1000 for 5 hours comes to $ 700
Instruction Rate is $ 300 total.
Housing for one week $100
Total = $3100

Cheers

@nikhilheb

I am assuming your 5 year multiple entry visa is an M-1 visa (if its a visit visa then skip this post )

You can only enter the U.S on that visa if you are going for flight training from the particular school that issued you the visa ( flight training = Commercial Single , CFI etc )

Since coming for recency in not flight training you are going to need a visit visa (B1/B2) to enter the U.S .

cyrilroy -- or he can set up a program with the school that meets the criteria for the m1 visa. It just takes a little paperwork on the part of the school (develop a "recency course" -- which Pulk laid out pretty well in his previous post). A friend of mine has a school in Miami that does exactly this type of program for foreign students that need a "recurrent course."

wow! funny thing is i was looking through the air america website just yesterday and was pretty impressed(but could not find the school's e-mail id). I do have a 5 yr multiple entry Visa and thus can't come to your school with that(as Cyril mentioned). Can the school provide a "recency course"?

@BadAndy
Could i have the name of your friend's flight school?

Thank you all once again

It may be funny but you get the work done.

Being from Bangalore and your city, there will be people who are coming for their recency in a week from mumbai who will get their work done and go back.

What i can guarantee is that housing will be 140 per week and transportation is included along with food. You will be treated like a family in our apartment. We stay 4 miles from the Daytona Beach International Airport. We get you done in 7 days if you read your aircraft maneuvers and procedures too.

P.M me if you need any help on recency.

Your total cost is 3200 USD.

BE-76 - Cost of Aircraft with tax - 199 USD per hour - 10 hours at max
C-172 G1000 - with tax is 138 per hour - 5 hours max
Instructor is 20 an hour for 15 hours = 300

Housing is 140 USD with food and transportation.

I do not think that being from the same country and city we can help you much better than this. But you are the customer, you chose.

Decision is yours.

recency

Hi there,
Tanx for the info.. wanted to clarify that if a CPL holder did his ME training on a BE 76.. then he needs to do only the general test by day & night with 3 T/O's & landings.

Why are you informing all that 10hrs are required on the ME.

Other schools offering similar programs are DGCA complaint & suggest otherwise. for eg. Dean International

DGCA recency

Hey buddy, Dutchess is no more registered in India. So you have to fly on other a/c like Seneca. I am doing my recency in US on Seneca 2 ( PA-34-200T) which is registered in India. And I got very good package for my recency. If you need any help about dgca or recency, feel free to contact me. I have spend alot time in DGCA office, asking these recency related questions etc.
