Eva Air
Anyone have any current info on EVA? Looking at the F/O position, coming from a turbo-prop background.
Looking for:
1. Requirements needed, not posted.
2. Life in Taiwan for western family of 4
3. Pay and Benefits
4. anything else you care to share?
Thanks

it will be a long time before u see any expats hired in Taiwan. CAL is not renewing contracts, and Eva is over crewed, offfering early retirements to captains. I would be looking elsewhere in the world if i was u!

Heading for Taiwan, good luck!
Don`t bother. The only thing going on here are select paycuts and filthy lies. Just another day at Cal! Apparently expats make to much, or direct hire expats specifically. After the scooter smoke settles here on Gilligans Island, I don`t think we`ll see our precious contributions back.
Does that answer your question?

just keep things in perspective.
good if you are unemployed recently. living in taiwan is cheap. no pay for type rating. commute home every month for 9 or 10 days.
not so good salary. upgrade prospects or long term future.
again, beats being unemployed and paying off a huge mortgage in a western country.
dont think they are hiring right now. maybe next year.

What is with EVA minimums? Why is there only a 500 hour difference between the PAX or Freight pilots? Do they really discriminate like that because no one wants to fly freight or what. Why don't they just make it 2000tt for all. Does Eva hire S/Os?

No s/o in Eva. If u have turbo prop time u go on MD11, if u have 500 jet u will get 777/747.Most guys they hire have 3000 plus anyway. U wont see Eva hiring for a few years , we r over crewed, plus they have Cadets in the system to.

i work for eva and things aren't too bad. treated professionally, 8-9 days off in row every month, free jump seat travel. nobody else in asia provides that as far as i know. you are employed by the company as opposed to some dodgy employment agency based out of someones back shed.
there seems to be a lot of negative comments from people who have never worked here or left previously. just remember there are two sides to every story.
in regard to eva versus cal, they are two very different airlines with different work cultures and safety records. they shouldn't be considered the same thing.
hiring wise i don't think there will be any new positions for a while due to declining cargo and passenger numbers across asia and the world.
but hey, these are just opinions and everyone seems to have one.

flylittleb Even though, most of the Aussie has left before you. good to hear that you are content there. I agreed with your views. But it all depends on your experince level and the $ pay you think you deserve. Best just be HAPPY wherever you're at. Enjoy your second year employment at eva.
