Flying on validation of foreign license
Dear All,
I am an Indian and hold an FAA CPL.
Like many of the thousands of others, I am still stuck in this process of converting my license to an Indian CPL.
I have cleared my exams, and have an Indian class 1 medical, however I do not possess an Indian RT.
I have given 4 attempts (failed part1 in the 1st two and failed part 2 in the next two attempts).
This is utterly frustrating for someone who is so passionate about aviation. I have worked really hard all along, right from getting my FAA CPL, to passing the Indian exams .. (without paying ANY bribes).
Now I seriously fail to understand why I have been failed 4 times in the RT exam !!!
I have been asked ridiculous questions by those wan#ers in the WPC/DGCA .. questions like How does a metal detector work ? Explain coulomb's law and Faraday's principle, They even asked me to tell the difference between PAL and NTSC, in my previous attempt... etc etc. I had a feeling that the guy was purposely looking for some remote excuse to fail me ...
Yes, I have studied all that stuff before during my school days and college days... but why do you have to bombard me with all this crap now ??? !!
Im not saying Im against learning new things ... even if they are not directly related to your profession ... but how can you deny someone a license/certificate because of not knowing something which you need not know in order to qualify for a licence ??
have I gone wrong anywhere ???
Sigh! ... I guess this is the price one pays for being honest and not bribing/using influence.
Anyway, getting back to the main topic.
Is it possible for me (an Indian Citizen) to be employed by an Airline and fly in India on my foreign licence ?
I have heard of this validation rule called FATA.
Can someone please explain about this FATA validation ?
Are Indian nationals also eligible for this validation ? Im asking this because I know a few people (Indian citizens) who have been flying on FATA for Indigo and Kingfisher the last 2 years. these guys did a self sponsored A320 rating in the US after their CPL.
Would appreciate any help/information regarding this...

I was in U R situation may be 2 years back .. but god came to my rescue and helped me get my COP RTR some how..
As A R Rahman said "Ella Pughazhum Iravanuke" So pray to god.. he s the only one who can rescue you..
Regarding working on FATA as a F.O. i think today is virtually impossible..
Here s why ....
Kingfisher:- There are nearly 80 fo s on ground after being typed atleast 50 of em are ATR typed..
Jet Airways:- Guys who are flying are keeping their fingers crossed to stay onn..
Spice :- They had gone to an extent of terminating contracts of some trainee fos after being typed on 738s.
Indigo:- Were planning to hire pilots who pay to fly.. but DGCA and some officials did not co operate.. Was a flop.. SO NO FATA FOs.
Air India:- SURE U CAN JOIN EM as a FATA FO but u need to be typed and flying on 777.
I am not keen on talking abt other players as they def am sure require INDIAN CPL IR MER ... with INDIAN COP RTR FRTOL CLASS I MEDICAL.

bt wat abt in d corporate world 7 seaters n all .
if they say get type rating of my a/c and FATA i wil gv u a job hypothetically
wat is d procedure of FATA and requirments

(vii) The flight crew, to be appointed as Co-pilot on fixed wing aircraft, shall have a valid Professional Pilot’s Licence with
a) Minimum 100 hours on type as P2, or
b) Minimum 500 hours total on multi-engine, or
c) Minimum 1000 hours total flying experience with type of aircraft endorsed.

And the company gets the FATA for the pilot not the candidate...

I will agree with Aloutte 3 on that front.You sound more like a Rastafarian man.....But getting back to the FATA , I hear that the DGCA is planning to withdraw the FATA for Indian Co Pilots shortly and eventually for the Indian Pilots as well.This would be a logical step as there are many Indian nationals with Indian licences looking for jobs and it would certainly not be fair to them to allow a foreign licence holder to get a job based on a permit.I know it can get tough at times but sometimes you just have to stick it out....makes you a better person..so my advise is get the Indian licences....hell others are doing it so can you...best of luck

DGCA has already stopped giving Co-pilots FATA (though you can still get it and you know how...)
They will stop the PIC FATA also shortly... But i have my doubt's about their july,2010 deadline for expats....

ofcourse u wud get one..if u were a TRI/TRE/Check Pilot on any type of aircraft operating in India
(buddy dont get me wrong, your question was like you be asked to pass through
a metal detector when a nuke missile is overhead )

Who says I want to join any airline in India! I am stable flying something small here in Canada. I have been offered to fly something small, fun job in India.
Yes been reading the forum since 5 years I guess and aware about the mess.
Anyway, one thing I have learned over the years here, as the pilot gets older he gains the experience and loses the ego! In the other world mostly gains both.....

FATA - How long can one be continuously employed?
Hello:
I am a newbie here. I searched for the info in other threads but couldn't find the information, so here's my post.
I have been employed by a private/charter company as a line captain on FATA. I have heard a rumor that at the completion of 3 years of continuous employment under FATA, I need to be out of the country for atleast 6 months. Is this true? I tried to find the answer in the DGCA website & google in vain. My 3 years are almost up. Do I need to find alternative employment? Could some of the more experienced people in the Indian industry shed some light on this subject.
