Loi Krathong
I flew out of Chiang Mai a few weeks ago during the Loi Krathong festival and there were alot of floating laterns in the air at night near the airport. Are there notams issued for this? Are there any restrictions? Has there ever been a in-flight latern strike?

No NOTAMs for Loy Kratong. But the lanterns are now limited to x-size and a candle of y-duration. These laws are as strictly enforced as all Thai transportation rules.
NOTAM's issued at Swampi (BKK) when the locals launch lanterns on the approach paths to protest lack of compensation from the government d'jour.
Try Yasothon or Nong Khai in May/June for the rocket festivals.

I used to stay in Grandview Village which is right next to the perimeter fence of Chiang Mai airport and come Loi Krathong the locals have no reservations whatsoever in releasing these lanterns. Quite a distraction to the crew on short finals as well as the danger of having one digested by an engine or two.
