Do not rely on what you see on this newspaper. Heavily biased, incorrect and incomplete information.

From +5000 to -6000, that's an 11000 swing.
I call shenanigans on the whole thing.

Unemployed Pilots In India ????
Regardless about the exact numbers, its important to send a message to wannabe pilots that the hot hiring days are over. Many students from asian countries are in deep debt with the "become a pilot mania'. Most are sponsored by unsuspecting parents who take massive loans to invest in their future pilot who is supposed to make a ton of money and pay off those loans. Most pilot trainees from asian countries have starry eyed dreams of the uniform and the multi-millionaire jet with a basic 250 hour CPL. It would be utter dishonesty for students to borrow money from their parents for their illfated adventures. Please get a grip on reality and make decisions as a future professional pilot.

Most of the flight schools in the US that are doing OK owe it to Indian students. They probably kept GA alive during the worst part of the oil crisis. The bubble was bound to burst. Hope there are other ways to build time and make some money in India in the meantime.

My true sympathies for those unfortunate and misguided youth who set out to brave all odds (dgca, rtr(a), airlines and flying clubs to achieve their dream). Nobody advised them of the pitfalls and everyday I meet some unfortunate soul who has been further exploited by middlemen.
This is where the Govt should have introduced some measures to calm excited kids who saw the tempting image of flying an airbus and have pretty young stewardesses serving them.... but then the story keeps repeating without fail every 5-6 years......

if some one goes and makes a big decision (such as venturing into flight training for e.g.) based on whats written in a news paper without proper research and bail out options ... well, can't say much about his/her IQ ...
the main aim of the media is to mis-lead and over hype stuff. thats why it sells ...

However, I don't think the Government has any business encouraging or discouraging people to make career choices. In fact, it's the Government-run DGCA's ham-fisted policies that have prevented the growth of GA in India to begin with. There is tremendous potential for small cargo operators throughout the country, but unfortunately India is one of the toughest countries to do business in, thanks to the beauraucracy (the oil crisis is only a recent development. GA in India has been pathetic for decades).
The pilots who got into the industry for the love of flying will achieve their dreams eventually. They might have to instruct or fly small charter for a while, either in India or overseas, but it's a waiting game. Those who took out a massive loan thinking they'd get to fly a nice shiny jet straight away, and for whom nothing else will do...well they have another thing coming

I know a lot of guys from the early days who just got frustrated and quit aviation all together.I think the guys who took loans for training are going to be hit hardest.Darwins theory works more in aviation than anywhere else SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

How many of these "pilots" know all the stuff that goes beyond knowing how to even actually fly an airplane?
If some of them are like the person in the co-pilot seat on 6E-102/VT-INS yesterday, then we have no problems, the number 6000 will probably be up for downward revision soon.
