Jet looking at cutting pilots' pay
NEW DELHI: From being priceless professionals, in short supply, till some months back, highly-paid pilots are now becoming the principal targets for
cost-cutting by India’s loss-making airlines. Close on the heels of Kingfisher, Jet Airways is looking at cutting salaries of its pilots by about 20% from next month.
Apart from cutting salaries, Indian carriers have now started sending the ‘‘more expensive’’ foreign pilots back. The expatriates’ number has fallen from 944 in February, 2008, to less than 900 now. In past three years, foreign pilots’ numbers were rising almost every month due to a shortage of trained fliers here.
A senior Jet Airways pilot said the management has begun sounding out pilots about this move before making a formal announcement in coming days.
‘‘We are being told of the financial difficulty the company is facing and that we all need to tighten our belt to helps the company survive this tough time. Anyway, the market is so tight that there’s no option but to accept a reduced pay,’’ said a pilot. Jet has approximately 800 pilots with salaries ranging from Rs 80,000 to Rs 3.5 lakh.
A senior Jet official said: ‘‘We have not taken a final decision as yet. But the senior people in the company, including pilots, may have a cut in their pay package. So people are anticipating something. What and by how much, is not yet finalised.’’

Fearing paycut
Wellfare of Indian Pilots will take a close look to that idea and object it as soon as the Local Pilots have to tighten the belt. If the unliked Expat pays his share on the cut that is OK but not when the spoonfed Indian Pilots have to cutback in any circumstance, revolution will occur.

talking about spoonfed . where will u ever get a contract on 6w on /2 w off (or 12d on / 9 d off) rotation , payed housing , free travel , etc etc which costs the company nearly 4 times the cost of a local pilot and still retain expats during troubled times . well if the highly incompetent mgmt of jet airways is really serious about cost cutting they should first let go of the expats .of course the **** is gonna hit the fan when they cut local salaries . if u cant stop the bleeding cutting salaries wont solve the issue .

As these expats are first out during troubled times, don't then complain about their pay and conditions vs local pilots. Insecure, short term employment must offer more money to make it worthwhile adopting this lifestyle.
Just be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. When things pick up again you want to be in a position to take advantage. Once you get rid of your experience base it will cost alot to get it back.

Well for now they all seem to be content making alliances.Dont be surpised if they start getting their children married to each other to stay put like the Kings in the old days.
