Question BKK Take-off & Heading West

Hi! I hope you people don't mind a Pax coming here to ask a question. I try to stay down in the Bargain basement as much as I can!

Regarding take off from BKK on many occaisions and heading west towards India/Mid East. It seems that as we fly over the city we go to say 5,000-8,000 feet and stay level for what seems to be an age then slowly climb to a higher altitude say 20 minutes out from the airport! I have to say it worried me at first as I thought that there may be some sort of a problem! Is there any reason for staying low over the city and suburbs?

Thanks in advance!

ATC altitude restriction, and has been this way for many years. And I might add, the BKK ATC guys are very helpful, IMHO.

Wink

Yep, can't remember the name of the departure but there's like 3 alt. restrictions, the first one at 6000 ft. ATC is, as 411A said, very helpful, I've got unrestricted climb to higher levels almost every time.

Note; overflying the King's palace is a definite no-no in BKK, and all the SID's keep you well clear of it. Just a interesting detail.

Thumbs up

My thanks to you both for your replies. Take off from BKK always seems to be different. I am happy that you have taken the time to answer a humble PAx's question.
