SkyStar Airways

Hi there!!

Does anybody have any info about SkyStar Airways in Thailand?? I know they are based in Phuket, with a couple of old ex-United 767's. Any word about their T&C's?? How's the company run, etc.??

Thanks!

Dont Stay Away.

This is a very good job.The pay is a little low for a 767, 5000usd for FO around 9000usd for a PIC.However the lifestyle aspect, living in HKT etc is just great.Easy routes, and nice people all around.

By Thai DCA regulations, you need 600 hours PIC on type for DEC.For FOs, a current or recent type rating is OK, but every case is considered individually, so if you just have a rating with say no jet time you may not get a validation.I sit air law tomorrow.

Thanks pete!! Very kind.....

I'm still thinking about it, 'cause we're flying 757's right now, but we're expecting a couple of 767's to start flying to Europe. The thing is that we don't have a date yet for those 'planes.

So, my current job is tending to the plus side. Let's wait and see........(if we could just get better salaries!!!)

TQ, PiratePete,
Interesting your Company needs 600 for DEC over in my op it seems you need p1 time only. Mind you as you said DCAT seem to consider each application. The Human Factors exam seemed nasty.

Thai air law test and human performance

Hi there

For the Thai Air Law learn the following.
http://www.aviation.go.th/Thailaw/AviationActE.pdf
Best word by word; all the penalties at the end you can skip.

And expect Thai logic in the questions or answers; it is not as bad as; YES could actually mean NO, more like: what is correct but not the right answer a) b) c) d)

For the Human Performance test you have to read what you can find about aero medical, Stress, CRM and TEM, Risk management etc. Good luck on this one.

You have now until 25 of June extended from 11May as most everybody is going multiple times I guess to see the questions. But one is not allowed to note something down, and nobody is told what was wrongly answered or what got covered.

If you are good it can be done the first time

And think about the poor ultra light pilots or PPL’s they are sitting next to the airline pilots having the same question bank.

And besides all this, I see that there are some farang pilots out there on PPRUNE working in Thailand.
If you want to meet in Bangkok for a drink PM me your email, but only the ones that passed the exam as I do not want to talk anymore about this test.

Not a tough test, just questions like expiration dates on aircraft registrations etc.
Human factors not so bad either but I think something was lost in the translation to English as some of the questions made absolutely no sense with the answers given.
When in doubt pick answer D, all of the above.
Good Luck.

My turn

New to Pprune but had to get on to see about Skystar as I just got a DEC offer. So I appreciate reading about the Thai exams, thanks.

I especially liked the threads from last Summer involving the disgruntled 767Longhaul guy. Pete, your answers to him were great and I tend to believe you more than him. My dealings with AS have been quite helpful.

I gather that Pete is there now and would sure like some more posts about what can be expected. I admit that since I did not meet the Thai requirements for DEC I am just a bit nervous that should I take the job I could suddenly find the offer changed (if even an iota of truth from longhaul). I have no 76 time but a little over 400 PIC 757 and 2200 SIC 757. Also another 9000 hrs PIC on B727s and B737s.

Pete, if you are at Skystar now and can PM me, perhaps exchange skype info and chat I would really appreciate it. Thanks and please keep thread alive.
