LASIK
Hello everybody,
I need some input from you guys this time, please help if u could.
Can someone please enlighten me about the eyesight policy of the airlines in Malaysia and Singapore?eg,SIA,Mas,Transmile.
If i have had lasik on my right eye(-4.5 before surgey),my left eye is just so perfect. Will these operators touch me ?
Im considering to undergo a surgery to correct my poor eyesight,as eyesight is an important aspect in aviation.if i have had lasik, will this disqualify me ?
please advise.
cheers for now.

Hi MK,
Just heard that SIA is drafting a policy on LASIK. It was heard that if you have Astigmatism before the surgery you would not be accepted.
Better check with them before doing anything.
Cheers,
Sunny

Most aviation medical depts world-wide view corective eye surgery very very conservativley and gazette regulations accordingley. Id put up with wearing glasses if I were you and put vanity in the back seat for a while, if flying is what you realy want to do.
PS your question shouldnt be directed at any particular operater, instead it should be regarding the medical policys of the aviation licencing regulatory body within that State.

Just to give you a bit of hope,I flew in Singair about 8 years back and I remember talking to a couple of young Sin guys about this subject.
I flew with two young guys that had this problem. They were totally rejected for eyesight. Both went to the US and this was when Lasik was in its infancy;had the op done, came back, passed the medicals and would now be Capts with Singair.
get the op done and keep your mouth closed;if you can see,you can see.
best of luck.
I dont think the medicos will do anything if you meet the standard.
