SIA Recruitment
Hello to you all. It's all getting a bit too hot in the desert and I'm looking for a change. I don't want to go back to England, I don't want to chance my arm at contract work so I am looking at the more prestigious carriers and in particular, SIA.
Do any of you know when they are likely to open their doors to direct entry recruitment again? I am currently on the A340/330 fleet in the left seat.

SIA have a big surplus of pilots on the 744 at the moment. The 744 guys are only doing 1 to 2 trips a month. It is very unlikely that there will be any DEC recruitment for a very long time if at all. The trend seems to be to recruit DEC's to SIA Cargo not mainline.

Have heard we are abt 100 over the top at the moment.
Also may be Recruitment late next year, however retirement age now 62 so I would imagine vacancies will be minimal at best.

That is 100 Capts over the top and about 50 copilots over the top on the 744.
SIA Cargo has pretty much filled its boots aswell so there wont be too much recruiting going on there.

The question is, are you talking about main fleet or cargo?
Main fleet staffing has been documented. Cargo may be a bit more fluid. There are groups who may leave and there are main fleet groups who may arrive.
Regardless, no one knows until it actually happens. Best bet, stay current and stay in contact.
My guess is that cargo will hire before main fleet.

Talked to one of the Sydney 747 based pilots the other day and he told me no jobs offered in cargo for them, maybe vacancies with Great Wall but thats it.
Was told he could return late 2009? when the A330 arrives, if memory serves me correctly.

All fleets are well staffed. Plenty of SFO waiting to switch the seat at 777. 744 skippers offered 777 and A330 in the near future, some of them are going to A380 and still approx. 100 captains extra. Another 120 kids are coming from the nursery, so plenty of local grown quality product. The cargo is losing money last couple of years, so their future is uncertain at the moment. There are rumers of reducing the fleet, but as I said nothing's certain. Bottom line:no recruitment untill end of 2008, most likely march '09. Good luck to all of you.
