MDLR readies order
Indian start-up MDLR Airlines is preparing to launch services using leased regional jets and plans to order between 10 and 15 turboprops or jets by the end of the year.
Nupur Mehta of the chairman's secretariat says MDLR will start services on a Chandigarh-Delhi-Ranchi-Kolkata return route on 14 March with two 70-seat BAe Avro RJ70s leased from BAE Systems. He says the carrier plans to add three more between August and December. It also plans to add helicopters.
MDLR is being established by real estate group MDLR and it is headed by group chairman Gopal Goyal.
Their HQ is at NEw Delhi

Another starter !!
Another start up airline wanting a slice of the growing Indian market. Although not sure there is enough room left in the market for too many more companies.
Maybe they have a different business model or targeting the smaller routs.
Also interesting choice of aircraft too. RJ 70's.
Has anyone got any information on this company in reference recruitment?
Pay/condition? Hours required?
I’ve got a mate of mine looking at doing an RJ 70 endorsement, who might be interested in this company.

Hi
I had a meeting with these guys and they said they'de really rather have an Indian Licence and they would provide the rating ....I have an ICAO ATPL and the big boss said that foriegners have a tendancy to walk out so he doesn't want them ...

Just wondering if anyone has heard from the HR department about pilot recruitment? I see that they are starting operations in mid March.
Would appreciate any information on the company? Good or bad ?

MDLR Airlines.
MDLR people are basically real estate big timers. Unless you have plenty of cash reserves, you will not get permission to start an airline as the government has enhanced the minimum requirement of funding. If you send me your CV , I can forward it to them through post/e-mail.
Their initial lot of aircraft have arrived. By this time, their expat crew should also have arrived. Nowadays, the firm that supplies the aircraft is generally asked to supply the crew also. In India, there will hardly be anyone who is qualified on this type of aircraft.

Contrary to what is being said, there is plenty of opportunity in India for the regionals. Consider the population of Europe which is approx 280 million, the middle class in India exceeds this with a burgeoning and rapidly growing economy at present. Now look at the aviation infrastructure in Europe and see how far behind India's is. There is only one way its going chaps.

Aviation Training Scene in India
Just as an aside, even if you want to start a flying school in India, there are no CFIs available. Even for an ex Air Force instructor with thousands of hours under his belt, it is a long bureaucratic ride through CPL. Even to get a date for your medical examination before you get to fly may take around three months.
There are long established flying schools in India lyiing dead as a dodo for want of CFIs and aircraft. The Karnataka government bureaucrats at Bangalore, floated a bid to operate the non-operational Government Flying School, Jakkur, Bangalore which is probably one of the oldest in India. The CFI was poached by another flying training setup where he was offered higher pay.
It has about one or two serviceable Cessna-152/172. The government said, resurrect, operate and revert it to government after five years. Which mad man wil go for it? In 5 years, an investor won't even be able to recover the investment.
The goverment of Orissa (On our east coast) has floated a bid for their government owned flying school which is now lying defunct. They are a little more circumspect. They have asked for a 'Operate and Transfer after 20 years' bid.
They had made an initial 'bid closing' date. It hs been extended, which is an obvious sign that there are not many bidders.
Someone told me that there are hardly about 13 or 14 CFIs to represent the huge billions that inhabit India. I foresee, import of instructors and CFIs. How long can people keep going abroad for flying training?

MDLR was supposed to start on March 14, according to Flight. But flights are still not bookable on their website. Anyone know if they did start ops, and if not what the hold-up is and when they might start?

As per my reasoned guess, it is due to lack of trained pilots. There is hardly anyone in India who has flown RJ-70.
Obviously, the suppliers of the aircraft would have agreed to provide the pilots. The pilot may not have arrived.
Even if they have arrived, it is not a straight walk in to the cockpit. There are various sorts of clearances to be obtained including 'security clearances' in respect of expats.

Todays's news agency report suggests:-
Indian Air carriers need to add 5,000 pilots in 5 years
New Delhi: The Indian aviation industry is besieged with a crippling problem of acute shortage of pilots which could jeopardise its multi million dollar expansion programmes.
"The total number of additional aircraft in the next five years is estimated at 500, for which an additional 5,000 pilots would be required," aviation ministry sources told
Currently, 2,940 pilots are employed as against the requirement of 3,160 pilots, leaving a shortfall of around seven per cent, they added.
They cited that though Indian Airlines has no shortage of pilots, Air India has a shortfall of 118 pilots.
The government was planning to hike seats in the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uraan Academy to 100 from the present 40, sources said.
Besides, the government was finalising plans to set up a world-class training academy at Gondia in Maharashtra while permitting Air India to recruit graduates in science and engineering as cadet pilots.
There are 500+ expat pilots flying in India. Recent news reports indicate that many agencies are getting into corporate/charter operations. I guess they wil go in for Cessna Citation/ Bombardier/ Embraer/BBJ sort of fleet. They have said that they would need about 600 pilots.

We're halfway through April, and the MDLR website still says nothing more concrete than "coming soon", and the (dreadfully slow) booking engine shows no availability anytime through July (the latest it allows you to look). Their second RJ70 is still sitting at Kemble, all nicely painted up.
So, when will they ever start up? And what is the hold-up?
