India A320 Jobs
I've been invited to interview for an A320 Capt slot with Indigo, KFA, and GO Air. Compensation appears to be fairly equal amounst the carriers for an American Expat.
However, I'm not able to establish contact with any westerner that is employed by them to confirm working and living conditions. I would appreciate an email from someone who could give me a little insight on the working conditions and rules, as well as the living conditions. I have worked in the Middle-East and Asia during prior excurisions, but I'm told none of this prepars me for India. Can anyone enlighten me.

This video-clip isn't B.S. Enjoy it...Buddy, I am working for IndiGo. I believe life is always different away from home and that's a reality. I don't see any problem working in India. In fact I enjoyed watching the video which Ray Darr suggested. It's funny but people don't mind it...CO-EXISTENCE is the secret. Respect them and they will respect you. Go for it...the pay is good (to my standards), flats and condos are relatively good...food-well you may have to bring a recipe book for your hired cook. Not suitable for family status though (again, that's my opinion only). Schedule is same as what was mentioned in the my contract.
Btw, Im not a westerner so my opinion may not be as good.

Does anyone of you which work in Indigo,KFA,Air deccan or Goair knows if your company will hire soon or later low Hrs rated guys?
I'm applying but it seems they don't even bother to answer to an Email..

Regarding the clip if only Air Navigation was so efficient 
However I've been to India on numerous occassions and though I can't say I got used to the traffic I did gain a bit more tolerance for it. What the heck it's all exciting anyways, go for it.

Can't be so bad
Cap'n,
With the salary you get in India, translated into INR at about 45 INR to the US$, you can well afford a good chauffer to whisk you around, when the airline cars / hotel cars arent available, so I guess that isn't so bad then.
We have a fair percentage of foreign pilots here across all airlines and most of them are doing a pretty good job of getting us comfortably and safely to our destinations !
HEre's hoping you'll do the same soon.

If you have lived in the Middle East, then you are well prepared. Nothing can be worst than a place where the rule of law is a joke. I`ve spent a few years in Q8 and wild horses couldn’t drag me to that dump or any part of the M.E again. India may be a little chaotic and things will move at a snails pace, but as an expiate you’ll be well respected. Family will have a good life and there is so much to experience form this sub-continent, sounds, smell……..it`s all very mystic and magical. Be a little adventurous and you`ll simply love it. Go for it mate!

I'm really interested in a job as a F/O in India. I'm type rated on A320 but with no hours, ATPL and 1600 hours on ATR.

Oi,
I am interested in flying the bus in India, anything for that matter, maybe even the CRJ, but I will stick with the bus for converstion sake.
I have just 1000 hrs in it as an FO in the US mainaland. 7300 TT hours.
what are the best operations to apply for? and how?

Okay. Now a bit about India
First the money part
About US$ 1 will fetch you approximately INR ( Indian Rupee) 44. The
Indian Rupee is made up in turn of 100 paise, much like the US
currency ( and quite unlike the Lira or the Yen)
The economy has started progressively looking up ( growing at 8-9%
every year and projected so for this decade and the next ) due to a
lot of measures that led to its opening up ( and therefore causing
this boom)
Expats are as common in India as they are in New York. On a flight
from BOM this morning I counted about 40% of the pax as such.
Culturally
A very diverse crazy quilt of hosts of religions and subsects. The
main three happen to be Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. Indians
religiously observe holidays for all major religious days such as
Diwali, Eid and Christmas. ( BTW here, we still call them Chrismas
holidays and no Santa is complete without the MERRY CHRISTMAS line !)
India is NOT ASIA when it comes to people, most Indians especially on
the main land, could pass off more as Mexicans or Spaniards and they
look VERY different from Africans or other Asians such as Chinese,
Japanese or Philipinoes.
Irrespective of their religion, most educated Indians have a fierce
pride in the history of “ Greater India” a concept that embraces
Pakistan ( which the Indian psyche hasn’t really gotten over the
Partition of), Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. The other thing we tend
to be touchy about is our way of life. The concept of royalty very
much pervades the average Indian and pops up unexpectedly in the way
they behave towards their fellow citizens. The Maharaja concept is
still quite strong in some parts of the country and of course, real
Maharajas do exist, but they are mainly ceremonial and do not perform
any administrative tasks. The country is ruled by a Parliament that
gets voted into power every 5 years ( or less depending upon the
coalitions – quite like Italy sometimes), but overall democracy is
safe. Safe did I say ? It’s a runaway democracyand everybody pretty
well deems it her / his right to do what they please, so that can get
a bit hysterical if you’re! used to forming Q’s and minding your P’s
everywhere.
Let me not scare you though, as a foreigner you will not only find
your circle of fellow expats within the airline, you’ll find some very
interesting Indians too !
Most of the people you’ll fly will have some education. On Jet and
Kingfisher, they’ll even have an MBA degree ( the stowaways are just
full of laptops). People are by and large pleasant and easy to get
along with, without any traces of xenophobia/ racism.
Safety is more or less ok – a lot better than some African countries
I’ve heard of . Evey Metro boasts of the American Gold Gym in addition
to some equally good Indian ones. Personal sports isn’t very strong on
the agenda here, so you just might get pleasantly surprised. We pay
obeseiance as a country to the crazy game of cricket in all its forms
and you’d better know a bit about that if you need to start a good
conversation. The weather is something we’ve got used to and unlike
the Brits don’t waste too much time over. Every conversation ends a
few sentences later with a shrug and “ global warming”. But
cricket…..aha……if you like the local heroes well you’ve got it made !

Great article!! I couldn't agree more with you Anurag on the realistic perspective you just draw on India.
I have lived in Kolkata (or should I say Calcutta?
) for some time and just loved it. I can't wait to start working there, hopefully very soon on the A320!
By the way, probably the best Tailors I've seen anywhere, if you know where to look.

Airline Pilots for India
There is a tremendous shortage of pilots in India. More than 350 expat pilots are working in India. A few have been thrown out due to lack of knowledge of English.
Expat pilots get paid more than their Indian counterparts. There is even a move to exempt expat pilots from paying income tax in India. The final decision on the subject has not come through as yet from the Minisry of Finance.
We are facing an acute shortage of pilots (we need about 3000 more in the next two years) and the shortage is getting acute by the day. We canot even start a flying school becuase of shortage of FIs and CFIs.
Aircraft are parked on tarmac awaiting pilots. The scene is good from the pilots' point of view.
Rush to India. Be prepared to fly y
our 'pants off' and log useful flying hours. If anyone needs any more info, kindly post.

Great last few posts.
Are any of the airlines yet willing to hire an FO with the type rating, but zero hours on type. (assuming say 2000hrs TT, but only multi piston experience)?
Alternatively, do any of them yet offer some sort of bond, and provide the rating?

Pilot Recrutiment in India
If you flown anywhere and your age is on the right side of the bracket, the airline will convert you. With the reasonably high salaries being offered, you can repay your bank in less than a year.
India is a lovely place to be in. It has its own set of problems, but it won;t affect you as you will be moving along with a high flying crowd of professionals.
