SIA recruitment

G'day,
Not much really these days on Singapore airlines, does anyone know when is SIA airline (mainline) expect to be recruiting next?

What would be the terms and conditions of a DEC?

Cheers

www.singaporeair.com

SIA

Thanks for the reply, but I wasn't asking about the cadet program....

I know about the SIA web site, but nothing is mention on when they are recruiting, maybe someone currently flying for them has an idea.

Cheers.

AFAIK SQ have NO plans to recruit any more expat DECs.

The current DFO is very pro the cadet program and reckons that he can produce as many skippers as he needs internally.

Good for the local boys, but sad for the expats. That was about the best long-term expat job out there. Nice town, I enjoy Singapore.

Friend of mine currently a DEC with SIA, been there fifteen years, been told his contract won't be renewed after June 2007 as by then they will have a considerable surplus of B747-400 pilots. Probably too old to retrain onto the B777.

Flight intrustor course

Hey guys,
I wasn't really sure where to pose this question so i thought this thread was the most appropriate.
I am considering taking a flight instructors course as part of my Flight Training/Aviation degree and was wondering how (if it is) it could help me in my search for a job in Singapore Airlines (or any other airline for that matter!). Part of the reason for considering this option is that airlines (to my knowledge) perfer individuals with higher flight experience rather than an Aviation degree and 250hrs alone. On the same note however, it is a large financial investment.
I highly appreciate all inputs, comments, good or bad!
P.s if there is another thread which is more appropriate for this information, please advise me on that. Apologies, i am still new to this site
Cheers!

your information is wrong .
It takes a year for the local boys to be trained, not due to their ability but due to the training system in place.
A DEC takes about 3 months and SIA need that flexibility to cope with market movement.
There will always be a need for DEC's in Singapore if only to use as insurance against being reliant on a local work force.

Thanks Faheel

That is a relief! Now if someone can tell me how long it takes to get a response from SIA after applying. Its been several months now and still nothing!

SIA

The answer? Well, good question! Could be a week,a few months, half an year or may be never. All depends on how needy they are.And now they are not. For the last 7-8 months 777team appoints 4-5 new captains(local boys) every month.Previous month 5 new Cap(local) on the 744 fleet. Right now I don't expect any new DEC recruitment. At least till september '07. 744 and 777 overstaffed, A380 delay and plenty of bright kids waiting to change the seat, I think september is more realistic. With the new 77W's and upcoming (hopefully)A380 late 2007 they might start hiring' but it looks like at very slow pace.I don't think they will stop hiring foreigners, rather than slowing down, sort of.
SIA Cargo - 45 SAS pilots joined the fleet not too long ago,so at the moment they are not in urgent state either. Some Captains are leaving also,so hiring expected at a very slow pace. My two cents!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you.
